Intend going to Southport Airshow this year. How is it rated as a photographic venue being beside the sea? Little on the web yet so does it get a good selection of aircraft? Is it a show for longer lenses?

superb photographic chances mate. I used my 100-400mm and had no problems, although I am sure if I had a 500mm I would have still been fine, as long as you’ve got at least 300mm you will fine, and thats if you want close shots. I have plenty of shots on my FB page in the Album “Southport Airshow 2012” ;) www.facebook.com/richardlukephotography

Thanks Luke. I see you can buy tickets for the show. Does that mean there is a restricted area for spectators who pay? Is there a best spot on Marine Drive to view? Thanks guys

hi,
I live local and go every year. its really good! aircraft this year were the best yet for me. there is a wristband entry to anywhere with an unrestricted view but it allows you to get onto the beach where some aircraft land. i only have a 250 lens and it does fine for me. I would recommend anywhere on the beach as a good view.
hope that helps!
Keith

I've been the last 2 years and it's been excellent. 2011 was the better year IMO, because it was a little earlier in the year and there was a better chance of better weather, which it delivered.
