Another new species for me a Spotted Crake.
A very timid bird somewhat similar to a Water Rail in that it moves very slowly and carefully ... except when exiting and it then dashes for cover! :)
Had to wait quite a time for it to come out far enough to clear the reeds and at one point thought that I wasn't going to get a clear shot.

Great shots, I have tried on three separate occasions to see these species but to date have drawn a blank just ending up watching an empty patch of reeds.

Tim.

attractive bird and good find ..... image shows its inquisitive but shy nature

I've never seen one .... maybe some day

really attractive image

That's a beauty. Not one I've ever seen either. Has it just turned up - I notice they've only reported it today? I guess if it's not already a bit crowded in the hide it soon will be............;)

Super find and an excellent shot. It really is a beautiful wader.:)

Congrats on the tick!

I've never seen one before.

Your usual haunt?

Thanks all, yes usual haunt at WWT Slimbridge :)
It was noticed at around 10 this morning, initially being mistaken for a Water Rail but after close watching it was realised it was the Spotted Crake.
I got there soon after it was seen, (quite by chance!), and there were three Reserve Wardens and three visitors watching but a few more turned up as soon as the sighting was circulated.
Had to wait quite a while to get a clean shot of it. :)

Also new for me. First visit to Slimbridge for approx. 15 years, well worth it. (Probably does not look great as I only have my iPad with me)

Never seen or heard of these :( well done for spotting and capturing it (y)

Thanks Ingrid, all thanks to the Reserve Staff for spotting it but I was very happy to eventually get a few clear shots :)
