These are actually both around about 1mm to 1.5mm in size - so that's small in every sense!

I have shown 2 of each image - the first of each is uncropped, and then one where I have cropped in a bit to see them a little more clearly.

Elongate bodied springtail: Isotomurus maculatus.

Globular springtail: (possibly Dicyrtomina ornata?)

If anyone can confirm or correctly ID, feel free to do so.


Both were very hard to get to - on top of the rain-sodden recycling bin, and I could barely even see them with the naked eye unless they moved!

Not bad going Paul and not an easy subject bins are a good place to look rotting vegetation is also
The globular springtail is I believe a Katiannidae SP.

The globby is always hard to ID away from the commoner species...
