Stacked Empidid

Canon R with MP65 at F4, ISO100, 3.5:1. Diptera, Empididae: Clinocera stagnalis, male. 40 shots in the stack.

These small Empids are found on muddy edges of pools and ditches where they are predatory on other small inverts.

I updated the photo to a version with a 1mm scale bar. I try to remember to take an additional shot of a 1mm calibration slide before I change the camera/lens settings after shooting a stack so that I can provide an accurate scale.
