Hey all , the black focus ring on my EFS 17-55 has gone "sticky" as in the plastic not the rotation, wondered if any of you clever people had any ideas how to sort it ?
Thanks

Is it an old lens? Sometimes the plastic degrades over time :(

If you mean the rubber around the focus ring (grip) try a wipe with IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol).

Or spray WD40 on a cloth, and try a light wipe and buff off.

Edit, just to add don't get the cloth too wet as the fluids could get in the lens if squeezed out while rubbing, IPA will dry fast, WD40 will hang around longer (and smell...)
IPA would be my first choice if you have it because it flash dries.

I have a Nikon F75 that developed the "sticky rubber syndrome"..... Read on-line about using ArmorAll protectant to clean it and sure enough it got rid of the stickiness and it hasn't returned..... Also read somewhere that "Deet" insect repellent can cause it if it gets on your hands prior to touch a camera, and I suspect that's what happened with mine as I took the F75 with me to Thailand on one of my trips. Have stopped using Deet based stuff since it happened.
