I answered a text from someone not on my contacts list, an unknown number.

Have I made a big boo boo?

As long as you've not given details out you should be fine, if it is a bit iffy you may now get more trying as they know your number is active.

You can report the number if it shows..

Otherwise, block them on your phone and then delete, it may be an innocent wrong number.

Many Thanks Gav ;)

I did the same with an Email I thought was from my wife because I was really tried when I saw it and she was actually sending me Emails about something. She shouts from her study that she's sending me Emails..lol..I'm sure it was about holiday destinations.

Yes.. I worried, too, for a while but nothing happened. I don't "save" my passwords for banking or any other website unless it's miscellaneous..ie LBC Radio/Five Live etc..I have them in a book which I take away on holiday in case we're burgled.

It just shows how these scammers get lucky. Out go thousands of their Emails and they count on a lucky hit..ie someone in the process of engaging with their bank, mobile provider, holiday company/ Air B&B or just at a time when they're pressured, in a rush or as I was..knackered so, not alert in anyway.

In general I agree with Gav

On the basis that your reply contained nothing that could or would identify you as an individual and that you did not click on any links to webpage?
Furthermore a :plus1: on now blocking and flagging the number as Spam

There was a link in my Inbox Email, which is unusal for a start, which I clicked on. I can't recall what was in it but I must have realised it was not from my wife and deleted it. I hadn't entered any details. I think I sent it to 'Junk" (iMac)

No I didn’t add any personal information, just ‘Who are you?’ It was answered on an iPhone so I reported it as spam.

Well, here’s an update. For some reason my neighbours contact details were missing from my phone. The strange text I received was from him. I don’t know how his details were deleted/missing?
So, the unusual text was from him, quite safe, but I deleted it and reported it as spam.
Now he is blocked from my iPhone :(
How can I reverse that?
Can anyone help please?

Jak, any teenager will know how to help you out.

I had a similar issue and as I avoid almost all tech these days I just asked a friend if his children could help me out... his teenage daughter wrenched the phone from my hand and had everything sorted in less that 30 seconds :D So that's what you need... a friend with teenage kids :D

Hope you get it sorted.

I am on Android but wonder if any of the links here would be helpful?

Thanks guys, I’ll take a look at these ;)

One thing that can happen is if your neighbour switches provider, during the switch they will have a temporary number until their number ports across however the phone providers don't always immediately remove the temporary number. This means that the number you see can be different from your neighbour's original number for some time but their original number will still work.
