Hi all I am in need of some info on how I can release my stuck lens hood on my Sony FE 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 G OSS telephoto zoom lens .
I have tried to twist it off but it won't budge also tried heating it very gently with my hairdryer only around the hood itself but nope it will not release. Hoping some of you have had this problem and can suggest how it can be done .If not I will take it in to a shop and have it removed when I get back from Harris next week.

Try holding the hood at a different point. Sometimes I find that hoods stick but if I turn my hand a little it is a lot easier.

On the worst offender (Sigma 24-105 f/4) I ground off the locking pip so it doesn't lock up at all. This reduces the stress on the lens zoom mechanism but I need to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't turn.

I have a similar issue but is sticking i.e. difficult to remove.

IIRC a light application of an HB pencil could be used to act a lubrication. NB once removed and pencil graphite applied to the lenshood bayonet surface(s)

If @Erty 's suggestion doesn't get it off, a filter wrench might give you that extra bit of grip.
Once it's off the pencil trick should help stop it sticking again (I prefer a softer pencil for this as they have a higher percentage of graphite).

Just a thought one of the helping hand jar lid openers from the likes of Asda might do it give you that extra turn power .just make sure you get the plastic jaws type

Make sure you hold the bit of the lens that the lens hood attaches to of you are struggling. If you hold the camera you will stress the lens mount and maybe the zoom mechanism.
