Popped over to Warnham Nature Reserve this morning to see how the tern chicks were doing, they weren't co-operative today:(

But imagine my surprise when a kingfisher decided to land and start fishing right next to the hide.
Of course I had the wrong lens as the terns are further out in the mill pond so missed out on the diving shots , but it was a privilage to have his company for longer then I have befrore.

Awww. a wee youngster, lovely to see, TFS.
Thank you for that Dale, would that explain why it was quite darkly coloured ?

Yes, juveniles have quite subdued colours, as well as dark, even close to black legs/feet, white tip to the beak and shortish beak too.
