I bought a second hand Tamron SP AF 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD for my Canon 70D and it seems to be focussing a little soft. I am thinking of sending it in to Tamron for a service, clean and realignment.

Tamron in the UK (Intro2020) won't give me a ballpark figure for the above service. I was wondering if anyone else had had a service on a Tamron lens done by them and what they charged?

Hi Gary,

I had to send my Tamron 28-75 to them, it came back looking like new and working well. I paid about £130 for the service which included delivery back, I had to pay to get it sent to them. The service cost the same price as the lens so may be I should have not bothered buying used and just bought a new one with warranty.

Thanks for the reply. That's really helpful.

Does the lens focus correctly when manually focused? If so it may be a calibration issue. If your body has an adjustment option then this could be tried to get a sharper pic.

Intro 2020 wouldn’t even give me a price to update the firmware on a lens(!) and that’s kind of a fixed service no room for anything cropping up like with a lens repair. I’d personally buy another copy if it can’t obtain sharp manual focus.

I’d also consider what I’m asking of the lens, for example it’s not the best lens in the world and even the best copy will exhibit some softness wide open at 300mm.
