The mystery in the night

It's the mystery of the night which can yield a good photo - and here are 3 OK pictures of a tachnid (?) fly, a barkfly and an ant - but it's when you get the photo that really pleases - like the fourth in this set of a hoverfly larva finishing of the remains of an aphid meal...

Lovely set as always Paul, but as you say, that last one is real special
 
Tbh, I never thought of them feeding...
I'm pretty sure they do :D

The larva are pretty good at aphid control, although I get lots of hoverfly's hanging around my Clematis,
they never seem to lay much in the way of eggs.
Hence the afore mentioned Ladybird larva this year.

Of course what I meant was I never considered what the larva would eat - in fact now that I mull it over, I have no idea what a lot of bugs eat, be it prey or veggies!

Nature is so complex!
