The simbiotic relationship between Ants and Aphids

Not the best images, but the following pictures show Ants 'farming' Aphids for their honeydew.

It's fascinating to watch these tiny creatures and their simbiotic relationship. The Ants care for and protect the Aphids from predators, whilst the Aphids provide the Ants with their favourite food...........Honeydew.


The ants tend to their flock, with great care and will remove any that are found to be sick.

If the aphids exhaust the food from one area, the ants will 'herd' them to another suitable food source.

Look closely, and you will see the ant receiving some honeydue, from the aphids.

My rose bush did'nt fare too well, but it was worth it to experience this fascinating behaviour!
