One from a workshop last month when the weather was good. Sadly it was a tad windy so the small distant lochans were not still - it didn't bother my workshop client in the slighest but it did annoy me as well - you know I am like that.

Some nice light and interesting sky came through about an hour after sunrise - the sunrise itself wasn't that great with not enough cloud in the distance to take on any meaningful colour. It is composed in this very specific way to a) hide the road b) hide the little graveyard and line of trees that don't quite sit right with the rest of the view. Strangely it was pretty quiet for a summer morning and we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves.

I like that Steve, and the overall feel is nicer than a sunrise with better detailing and the bright parts coping well. The distant plain on the LHS also gives a sense of scale to what would otherwise be slightly abstract peaks.

It's a well thought out composition with the landscape almost fanning out like a sea shell in front of you, nice warm muted summer light too.

For me it is THE composition that works. It just layers nicely here and hides all the stuff you want to hide.

I like the tree shot but what ruins it for me isn’t the popularity of it (that would be self indulgent pomposity to rule out a shot solely because its popular) but the road. There’s no hiding it at the tree.

I’d have liked the Lochans still but I’ve done it like that a few times.
