Truly universal DSLR cage?

I shoot Pentax DSLRs and like most Pentaxians have to accept the absence of certain accessories. Doesn't stop us looking though!

So, does anyone know of a truly universal fit camera cage that I can adjust to fit my Pentax K3iii? And my K10D?

Fingers crossed.

SmallRig has about the best camera cage assortment, but I have no idea what will fit your camera. I have a Canon 90D with battery grip and I managed to find one of their cages that could be used with it. Most other brands couldn't adjust for the camera and battery grip height. I then added accessory pieces from SmallRig to let me configure it for adding a wireless mic receiver, 7" display, focus knob (used to zoom lens), 2 channel audio mixer, chest pad, and side handles for making videos.

They have a pretty complete online catalog. If you don't find something, maybe a call or text to their Customer Service could get what you need.

Thanks Charley. Saw a few SmallRig camera specific cages,but didn't look at their site. Will do that now. All I'm really looking for is something that'll let me mount a monitor other than on the flash mount.

@JohnX,

The attached photo should help. The two rods under the camera have a chest pad on the back end. When in use, the camera strap is around my neck, I'm holding the two handles (right and left), and the chest pad is against my chest. I've used the shoulder style with the monitor on the side and was never happy with them. This gives me more camera stability, although a bit harder to pick up and use because of the camera strap around my neck. The photos show 3 views of my setup while it is attached to a Slik U-212 Pro tripod in my studio. I have two of these tripods and they work well for video, but not so well if I add a heavy lens. For most video work I'm using it hand-held with no tripod. It gets used both in the studio as well as in the field. Most of what I have been doing with it is short video commercials about health foods.

Sorry, these photos were taken back when I was assembling this, and they are missing the 15 mm rods front to back below the camera, the chest pad on the end, and the Follow Focus option (set up to zoom the lens and using auto focus in the camera). I'll take some new shots and post them if you ask for them.

Charley

I've now had a good look at their site, but oddly found it impossible to contact them as it seems their system requires an order number for any question you might have.

Found nothing, so will keep hunting. Maybe an L bracket if I can find one that is designed to accept accessories like magic arms, etc.

Your second post is very informative, but for me, your rig is overly complex, as ultimately all I'm after doing is attaching a monitor other than by using the hot shoe,

Might something like THIS be what you're after, John?

Available through the big river here in the UK.
