What custom functions are you using on Canon 7D

Evening all

Recived my brand new 7D and am just starting to get my head round all these different modes, my question is for those that have the camera what custom functions have you got set for motorsport photography? Ive tried googling and this is the only answer i can find and this was back from 2010, have coppied and pasted below. Do they sound pretty good as a base settings to work with or has anyone got anything different?

->> Here are mine and they work very well:

Picture Style - Standard (but sharpness upped to 4)

C.Fn III: Autofocus Drive
1 - AI Servo tracking Sensitivity: Set to -1
2 - AI Servo 1st/2nd img priority - Set to 0 - AF priority/Tracking Priority
3 - AI Servo Tracking Method - Set to 0 - Main Focus point priority (that way the camera focuses on what you want, not what it wants)
4 - Lens Drive when AF impossible - Set to 0
5 - AF Microadjustment - Set to 0 (Most people have said this is ineffective. Even the manual says it needs to be done on location where you are shooting to do any good.)
6 - AF area select mode - I have single point w/expansion selected and single point. Been shooting mostly on single point w/expansion for sports.
7 - AF Manual pt. selection pattern - Set to 1 (Continuous)
8 - VF display illumination - set to 1 (Enable)
9 - Display all AF points - Set to 0
10 - Focus Display in AI Servo/MF - Set to 0
11 - AF-assist beam firing - set to 2 (Enable to external flash only)
12 - Orientation linked AF point - Set to 0
13 - Mirror lockup - Set to 0 (Disable)

Hey Dex - congrats on the new camera, are you perchance going along to Brands Hatch tomorrow? if you are PM me your number and we can meet up - Cory will be taking her 7D and you are welcome to cross ref the settings. She has had some outstanding results.

Although from memory those you have are pretty close, are you shooting just raw? Cory doesn't 'do' jpeg so all that side will be zero.

From memory that looks pretty similar to I use. You can set one of the back buttons to quickly cycle through the point selection patterns, which can be handy to experiment which with one you prefer. I just use centre point, sometimes spot if I'm focusing on drivers in the car.

First rate camara for motorsport, I use landscape for picture style & #4 lens drive when AF impossible set to 1; focus search off.Get some pics up when you start using it

Cheers David, unfortunately I was working yesterday so wasn't able to go, hope you got some good shots, I heard it was rather chilly there yesterday.

Cheers Sam, have done as youve suggested and changed the dial to be able to quickly change focal points.

This may be a daft question but do you save all the above to one of the custom settings??

Sorry to take the thread of the rails, and i really should know this living in blackpool :bang: but when is the rally? and i'm presuming its up by the norbreck castle again?

Would really like to go but never know when all these things are on :bonk: Take to PM if you prefer to avoid de-railing the thread anymore
