What does DF mean? (Sigma).

Taken from the Sigma website:

DF (Dual Focus) System

The DF (Dual Focus) system disengages the linkage between the internal focusing mechanism and outer focusing ring when the focusing ring is moved to the AF position. This system provides easy and precise handling of the lens, since the focusing ring does not rotate during autofocusing. The wide focusing ring also enables easy and accurate manual focusing.

Ah ok, thanks allot (y)

I'm also trying to find out if this is a lens that can be used on a full frame.....

Who needs live view? Just stick your camera where it needs to be, trust your instincts and use the force! :D

Mate, sticking things where they need to be, trusting my instincts and using force has seriously NOT done me any favours over the years.....

:D

Ahoy!

You can find all you need for the Sigma AF 28-70 F/2.8 EX Aspherical DF in the lenses section on Dyxum which is the bible website for all things Sony/Minolta, but it may also be a handy reference site for anyone really. Others have already provided info about it's format and what the DF version does that the earlier EX Aspherical doesn't, though the 28-70 F/2.8 was later replaced with the AF 24-70 F/2.8 EX DG and you'll see all other external links and model versions. FF wide-angle lenses aren't really that good on APS-C bodies, though APS-C UWA and WA zooms and primes are more readily available and are better quality than those for full frame, and that's the Achilles Heel for FF shooters should a decent affordable WA lens be required, but as all 3 sony FF models are dual format, there's no need to sell any lenses as long as you're happy with an 11MP image size when using APS-C lenses on a FF body.
