I think fly larva on a piece of wood. The real size is 7.4 mm, magnification is 2.1. It might be something else there are lots of them and they don't move

Nice set with interesting subjects, not sure on first one but had quick read, I think you're right, looks similar too - Chloromyia formosa larvae

The first is most likely a hoverfly larva with the posterior breathing tube and shape I got this interesting link to a book on them from a similar photo on Flickr

They could well do but sadly my colour blindness stops me from seeing if you are right. I possibly over processed them. I will bear that in mind though - thanks a lot.

Ah, that's tricky. Have you calibrated your flash? That is what I do. As you know I experiment with flash setups and for every new/adjusted setup I photograph a grey card and then get the Temp and Tint by using the white balance dropper on the grey card image. I then incorporate that Temp and Tint into a preset I use when converting the raw files.

Incidentally I thought the springtail and the weevil were rather nicely processed, showing pleasing clarity and detail, and also good DOF coverage. They didn't look over processed to me.
