Where to go - Cheshire

Jodrell Bank can't be too far. Is the Railway Museum open in Crewe? Sandbach and the Celtic crosses. Nantwich has some Elizabethan buildings. The canal that runs from Sandbach to Middlewich. The marina just outside Nantwich.

Hi Rabaroo, I'm new and also live near Crewe.

Personally I love going to Chester Zoo but, if that's too far afield, how about the Tropical Oasis at Stapeley or even Lakemere off the Wheelock bypass for a few animals.

Beeston Castle is good (if the weather cheers up), there's some great views from up there or the station for some people shots (and that's free). Brereton Mere out near Sandbach is lovely (though there are some trees there...), Trentham for the gardens and Monkey World or Biddulph Grange has a load of photo opportunities.

And you're only 20 mins from Mow Cop, some fab views across Biddulph moor. Blimey another Crewie tog I thought I was all alone.

The sandstone trail is very nice. Yes there are a few wood but you get great views over the Cheshire plains.

Runcorn Bridge at night (make sure its lit up as the lights have been off recently for some reason!)

Birds of Prey place in Knustford

Tatton Park and Dunham Massey for some deer etc.

Anderton Boat Lift (never been but its on my list)

Macclesfield Forest ( the lakes, not the trees ! ) . . .
Tegg's Nose . . .
Shutlingsloe, and the western edge of the Peak District . . .

Anderton Boat Lift (never been but its on my list)

I went last year and it was well-worth the visit

The boat-lift is an incredible feat of engineering (y)

There's a visitors' centre and café, and there's an optional boat-trip along the Weaver navigation (photo ops of herons, derelict boats etc). At the end of it the trip-boat goes up in the lift and ends up on the canal at the top. There were plenty of narrowboats and other craft both cruising and moored (on the canal) when I went there, and lots of swans as well :)

where's the Bird of Prey place in Knutsford? I'm Audlem at the mo', soon to be Sandbach way... usually head off down to Ross for the National Bird of Prey centre.. a closer port of call would be most useful.

Anyway, Styal Mill? Manchester Airport [there's that pub beer garden next to the runway - are we still allowed to take photos in this Daily Mail age?] Or how's about the bird sanctuaries on the Dovedale road out of Leek, or up on the Mersey estuary?

As said, Mow Cop [but your photos end up looking like everyone else's, there's only so many ruins] or Tegg's Nose/Macclesfield forest/The Cloud near Congleton for vistas; I keep meaning to do a sunrise trip out to LadyBower reservoir, but.. well... you know... sunrise is reaally early..
