Firstly, hi and welcome to TP

Some general image thoughts.....
The Wren (and well done for spotting it and getting a decent frame) is quite small in the frame but does look sharp (on my phone) so a crop to improve composition and 'framing' of the bird might be beneficial and provide IMO the needed emphasis on the Wren.

Lighting wise, there is a clear hot spot where the bird is perched so I can see why you EC by -0.3 but without such an EC I think the highlight would not have been blown such that the birds plumage might have been better defined?

I have no idea how good a raw processor Darktable is but Sony have their own post processing software, Imaging Edge, so that might be worth a tryout? Hopefully the Sony shooters can chip in with their thoughts?

Also, the above site mentions a firmware update.....what firmware version is your body on?

Lastly, the above site has a full user manual pdf to download.

feedback welcomed please to help me improve for next time.

Hi and welcome.

It's always lovely to see a Wren, they are very skittish and don't stay still for long, if ever.

The image is all a bit jumbled for me, I have to look for the Wren....... it should be the star of the show and it's not really. I think if you could get the Wren just a little more isolated, you'd be getting there. The light has helped though, lighting up the Wren. Cut down on distractions, I can't unsee the pond liner(?), for example once I saw it. Out of your control I know but eye contact with the lens is always good. If you can't get that, a head tilt towards the lens always helps.

I love Wrens and you've done well to frame one, thanks for sharing. (y)

Hi Dale

Many thanks for the reply and all noted. I was very limited as to from "where" I was able to take the photo from due to my location which was frustrating but it was out of my control.
Appreciate the feedback and hopefully will do better with future encounters!

Hi Box Brownie

Many thanks for the comment. I'm running version 4.01 on my a7Rii which is the latest.
All noted with the crop aspect especially given the MP of the camera...
Darktable is an opensource equivalent to Adobe Lightroom and is a non destructive editor.. but there is a steep learning curve with it!

Hope that answer's a few of your questions!
