Yes
I work with dogs 7 days a week and whilst I've zero interest in setting up in business again with photography (those scars are never gonna heal) I've got a wee side hustle setup so my dog parent/clients can at least choose to buy any photos in a low stress hands off way.

Before the Z8 I'd be laying on the mucky ground to get to that eye level position of dogs. Not good in scotland, or in a dog field. Or anywhere if it's wet. Or cold. You get it :D

This screen is an absolute game changer. It flips left, right and up. I've not tried down yet.

It means I rotate the screen towards the sky, and I can see everything perfectly even if the camera is on the ground and get my laying prone shots whilst crouching.

Anyway, love it

Gary

I've been doing the same with the articulated screen on my K-1 since 2016. I have tiltable screens on my D500 and D850 as well, but neither are as versatile as the one on the K-1.

Whilst I do love the double articulation of the Z8 and Z9 screens, I think Sony have nailed that one with the setup on the A7RV, which tilts up or down like a regular screen but also flips out to the side and fully articulates for the video crowd - best of both worlds. I can see other manufacturers adopting this in the future.

Like you say, a flip out screen is super handy for getting at eye level with pets without having to get yourself on the floor.

Without sounding dodgy, I'm always bent over with my 70-200!

The 'without sounding dodgy' absolutely didn't work haha.

I have the A7iv, which has the older version of the screen - which is great, but the A7RV hinge mechanism is definitely better - hopefully the A7v will get that when it's released.

A few years ago, a tilt screen seemed to be just another bell or whistle and something to go wrong. NOW, it's a must for pretty much any camera I might buy!!!

I think I prefer the double hinged fold out screens to the single hinge and rotate screen, like on my Fuji X-H2S.

definitely a great feature. I just wished they made the screens bigger!!!
With the advent of folding screen mobile phones.....it is not beyond possibilities that such an increased size screen might make it to the rear of digital cameras

Haha. Here's mine taken on the camera then retaken on the same phone.

Love the form factor.

before you even need to do that, my R6 has a very prominent bezel so there is an easy 1cm extra in diagonal right there and if you increase body size a little, there is probably another 1cm. 7.5cm to say 9 or 10cm is a big enough increase.

As you infer, very much down to the potential extra space dependent on the overall design of the body and it's 'construction constraints'

I believe the technology is there if you are wiling to license the right part or patent. Look at mobile phones without bezels. It is can and is done. Canon just seems to be reusing old parts from the powershot compact bin - not the best they could do in 2024 if the only wanted.
As for making the thing 5 or 10mm bigger in either direction, that is obviously super simple and also helps with the cooling they just need to be willing to do the right thing. Personally Z8 is about right and all the rest are just shrunk beyond any logical sense.

It costs about $1M to tool up a custom LCD panel (at least it did 3 years ago when I still worked developing products with LCD panels) and that is before you get in to minimum order quantities, so I can understand why camera makers try to keep using the same screen panels for multiple models.
