Hi I want to try woodland photography and looking for some nice forest near (1hr drive) Glasgow. Preferably something with resemblence to ancient forests, but anything wild will do ;)

Can you please help?

Thanks.

If you go to Eaglesham on the south side near East Kilbride, you could head for the Whitelee Wind Farm, keep going heading towards Fenwick. Lot's of forest on this stretch and nice scenery all the way and back.

Cheers,
Dougie.

Not sure about ancient looking but a couple of woodland places in and around Glasgow:

Dawsholm Park (might be a few dog walkers there)
Finlaystone Country Park (lots of varying woodland but have to pay if going through main entrance)
Mugdock Country Park (maybe a little busy)
Woodland behind Overlee Playing Fields (Clarkston) and there's a bonus abandoned military type buildings there (possible AA?)

If you drive along the A418 past Helensburgh and Rhu, head toward the Naval Base and when you get between the 2 base gates (about half way along the fenceline) and there is a small right turn which takes you up a narrow winding road up toward Glen Fruin, there is woodland along the Fruin road. Alternatively, go the other way through the Glen from the A818 (turn up the 818 off the A82 by Arden).
