AlanDorset Week 52 Picture of the Year

Nice tunnel shot Alan. A great street scene. I'd like to see a mono version which I think would work well. I'm being ultra picky (which I don't mean to be), but it's very slightly off horizontal which I think is more noticeable to me because of the straight lines in the shot.

I can understand the shopping trolley maybe, but the bike doesn;t really look abandoned, set on it's stand nicely... and it makes me wonder why!

Good POV with the line of bricks bounding the top of the frame
The bike had a flat front tyre, not sure how a rental bike can be left away from the designated locations without being tracked down. I tried a shot focussing on the bike which was more interesting but lost the tunnel element too much.

Interesting thought but I found the mono to lose character and the contrast between the dull concrete and the yellow lit underpass. I lined up the bricks at the top with the frame to get the horizontal, shot was taken from one side of the path so I guess that has thrown the level perspective out?

Like the Tunnel shot full of atmosphere and the shopping trolley made me chuckle because of a mate who used to "rescue" them years ago.

Smooth
by Alan Webb, on Flickr

A bit of shoe-horning, this carborundum stone for sharpening chisels has two surfaces, a rough and a smooth. Although probably not officially described as such. Anyway, some DoF experience included.

good idea and I like the angle.
looks better organised than my kit.

Nice angle. I would have preferred if the tool box at the back hadn't been there as my eye is forced to switch between two subjects. I won't mention the sock in the welly; oops, I mentioned it :D

^^^ That

What is that blurry thing that looks like it's moving?

Getting time for some catch-up comments:

Transparent - Looks a hi-tech flap, I'm presuming it only lets your cat in.

Snappers Choice - I do like the first one with the light trail covering the full scene but still enough detail behind.

Knob - It wasn't one of my favourite themes but still good to find something for it.

Letters - Its amazing how different alphabets have been created. Nicely detailed and helped by the vignette.

Kitchen - So you can order food made in the kitchen in the kitchen!

Broken - Conveys the theme well, with the composition and mono processing adding to it.

Full - Your not getting any more in, the DOF helps to focus my attention.

Pattern - Interesting how much variation there is in the individual sections, especially the more curved parts.

Tunnel - It must supermarkets a fortune in lost trolleys. Could see teenagers zooming down the slope on a bike/scooter/skateboard and trying to make the sharp turn at the end.

Spring - The colours stands out against the background.

Smooth - Lots of examples of the theme, looks like you could have two separate images splitting it in the middle.

That's a very well organised tool box. The angle makes an interesting composition.

The first of those three is an interesting, unique idea. We'd expect to be following the red car and have the stationary things blurred.

I really like the "alternative" way you have it. Technically perfect for timing and shutter speed. Bet it took a few goes....

Lovely set, as Graham said the first one is different to the norm.
Second picture- we watched the race on TV this weekend and driving the cars certainly looked "interesting" with the input needed from the driver to keep the cars on the track. IIRC gap between 1st and 2nd was about 0.1 second.

Thank goodness for digital cameras and burst shoots, multiple attempts !

Looks like lots of connections going on there... fits the theme!

I really like the big fish you can see under the other, nicely composed and exposed.

Distant 2
by Alan Webb, on Flickr

I tried to make this work for the theme but somehow it didn't grab the attention as I wanted, a bit of a grey day not helping. Hence the picture above on the walk back to the car.

Nice shot Alan, with the track leading you to the walkers and then the distant countryside beyond.

That’s fragile and probably quite sticky, my wife would not stand anywhere near that

Nice one. Not been opened for a while!

Great idea, although the actual door and handle all look fragile too.
