Thanks Simon, when I do one of these I always like to get some random person in the shot just to add to the story.Interesting effect. Works well I think, especially with the person as a focus.
Thanks Dave!An obvious composite - but well done
Thank you Simon, I've played with it a while now with better success over time.Thats a really cool effect, with just the right parts in focus.
Thank you Bebop, I find that people either love the effect or hate it.Love this - really creative. Really nicely executed
Second one is the best for me. Looks like rain soon.
Second one for me too - great sky and light, and a certain starkness too it, and I prefer the foreground which I think gives it more balance for me to the first.
However, the first one's not bad either
I concur.. the second one has the most moody and dramatic sky. It's been pretty much the same here too this week.
No2 here too. Nice horn of shoe
The second one does it for me, the sky is much more dramatic.
Thank you Simon. That’s very nicely shot
Thanks Dave.Nicely shot Bill
Thanks Pete.Very Nice Bill
Thanks Bebop, cedar has a special place in First Nations culture so I thought it would be appropriate.I agree it has turned out nicely. I would never have thought to use such a backdrop, but it works well and it fits the theme.
Thanks SimonNice shot, I really like how the DoF draws the eyes to the detailing in the middle.
I like this. Well framed and so much for the eye to wander over in this image, and fits the theme beautifully.
How fabulous to have it free! Really nicely captured showing the environment too, and I like the colours.
I like the way the buildings frame it, and there's a real sense of scale as a result of the composition, showing the top of the central tower block.
I can’t really explain why I like this, but I really do.
I found this composition by accident as I added and subtracted elements. And then decided that I liked the b&w version the best...

Photoshop "painterly" version

Thank you Bebop, I threw the "painterly" one up there just for fun. I haven't mastered the effect in Photoshop by any means...I like the warm tones of the colour version and it is a lovely composition. On my iPad I’m struggling to see the difference in the colour versions, it’s probably my eyes are not good enough!
Thanks Jim.I also prefer the colour version (No 2 for me), it's a nice simple composition and the warm tones and light are lovely. The PS Painterly version looks a bit odd to me I have to say, it's a bit too much of an effect that makes the image look very low resolution (sorry, don't like it).
Thank you Allan.Lovely simple clean and well lit composition the second one in colour I think works best for me a really nice example of still life.
Thanks Paul.Yes, colour version for me too - sorry. The B&W makes the grapes look a bit odd, like pebbles. But I do like the composition and lighting.
Thanks Simon, sometimes it's just fun to play even if the results are less than stellar.Another one for the colour version, but of course this will always be subjective. Not 100% sure about the Painterly version for me, but nevertheless it's always good to see a different approach - if you don't try it, you'll never know!
Thank you Nick. The colour version has a classic look, soft colour and low light, but the mono really has something too, bringing out the shadows a touch more. It's hard to choose between them.
I appreciate the kind words Dave.Lovely still life shots Bill. It's the mono for me
Thanks Kell. If you saw my "lighting set-up" you wouldn't think that I have any understanding either. At best you might call it ad hoc.I like them both.
Shots like this just highlight why I went with a 'gag' for mine. I don't really understand enough about lighting them or composing them to do it properly.
Good job.
Not so keen on the 'painted' version, but it does look quite effective here. When I viewed on my phone earlier, I thought it just looked a bit 'brighter' rather than had texture added.
Thank you Dave.Really do like the mono shot as it just comes across as an oldish sort of shot.
Thanks Helen.I'm torn between the two versions. The shadows work better in mono but I love the soft tones of the colour. Hard call...
Thanks Mark, I wanted to do something more traditional, glad you liked it.first colour one for me - love the classical look.
glad to see a proper "traditional" approach to still-life shooting
Thank you Simon! All good shots, but I think you chose the right one - it's fabulous!
The tiny hairs were just unexpected (but welcome) add-ons!You’ve certainly captured the tiny ice crystals. I like the t8ny hairs on the stem too.
Thanks Joan!Leaves fit the bill but I really like the shells.
