A day out earlier in the year. Very new to photography and especially photoshop. Any tips to make it better in photoshop greatly recieved. I know I should try to remove the car and it would have been so much better had the jockey looked up!

Shot with nikon d5000 and 18-200vrii lens.

Won no money on the day but enjoyed the shoot! Entered it into wotk competition but got nowhere. Any help greatly recieved!

Hi. Its nice and sharp and well exposed. The car in the bg doesn't bother me. I've only ever been to point to point, but found I had to pick my spot, get low (shoot from under the rail) and try and get all the horse and rider in the shot. I think here a wider view would have been better, including the second rider and horse, but you get what you get when you're at the races, I guess. Hope you won some money. Good excuse to go again, huh?

That's a great point about squatting down. Maybe I'll take a small stool next time. Messed up last time as had camera set to jpeg and raw and the camera spent too much time in between continuos shot writing to the card. It's so hard when u get such limited chances in sporting action. Much respect to the pros!

Never done any horse racing but plenty of equestian. INMO the cropping is out. Personally I'd like to see all of the horses legs or crop tighter to concentrate more on the jockey (perhaps turn it into an upright?). Nice and sharp image, well exposed with excellent detail.

THanks, Im pretty sure i didnt get all of the legs in im afraid, something to ensure next time i go. The horse come on you so fast i thik i was too slow in cranking the zoom in. THanks for the feedback, I shall be back to the races as soon as it warms up! Glad you confirm the exposrue and focus is sharp.

In many ways this is an excellent photo. Nice and sharp, good exposure, nice and vibrant, all the technical issues sorted. My main comments would be that it falls between 2 stools. It is neither cropped tight enough or opened wide enough. As a general rule cropping at the knees is good for neither man or beast, either move up to say below the jockey's feet, and focus on one rider or zoom out to show more context.

All the best.
