Any of those decay shots fit, for me, some nice images there. The one you've chosen is a really nice macro shot and i'm presuming is some kind of fungus, so right on theme too.
Thank you kindly Jim
, kind of you to say....and you presume correctly, though I don't know what kind of fungus!
Great shots this week Gareth, particuarly like the Macro shots, they've come out brilliantly, definitely works for me!
Many thanks Daniel, most appreciated!
Some lovely images there Gareth. Great backstory and that looks like a very interesting place. Would love to get inside there
My favourites are the first one, showing off the building in all of it's 'decaying' glory, and the tiny shoot. Great macro with lovely colour and DOF. That spider is pretty cool too. Bet that was fun chasing it around
Thank you very much Ian, it is indeed a fascinating building....I managed to gain access once....even managed to have my camera with me, but no tripod or flash, so nothing turned out that well unfortunately, and I became paranoid that I was going to get caught, so I was only in there for a few minutes!
There's nothing much in there really, just a load of broken up piles of wood and the detritus left behind after some '
ne'er do wells' have been up to no good!!
If I get my act together, and bring a flash or two and a tripod, I think there's a good photo in there somewhere....I'll definitely be going back soon.
I couldn't believe my luck finding that little jumping spider....thought it was a fly at first, but when I saw it jumping around I knew straight away what it was.
I'd never seen one before, and now I know why....they're virtually impossible to spot being so tiny! I just so happened to be scrutinising a nice, decaying log and there it was!
Nice images Gareth - liking the colours and textures in the macro shots very much so!
Thank you most kindly Grant!
It was a glorious day, and I got very lucky with the light. There was some lovely dappled light down the little path I was on...just so happened the fungus was in a nice bit of sunshine.
A nice set of photos you've taken, Gareth. Some really fit the theme well. There are lots of these type of buildings all over the country falling apart and abandoned. Its a shame really as they are solidly built and with traditional archirecture design. Out of the set I like the Shelter the best with its state of disrepair.
Thank you very much Stan, for looking and commenting.
I agree, it's a shame that these buildings are deteriorating. This one in particular is owned by an ex-editor of the Daily Mail I believe. Despite how it looks, it has been
(moderately) maintained....that is to say the security fencing is seemingly, continually being renewed/replaced, and the boards covering the windows and doors are regularly replaced too due to constant vandalism.
The land it's on is a prime area of industrial expansion however. There are a lot of new offices and businesses sprouting up very near to it, so I would hope that whomever owns it might consider retaining the character and renovating it....perhaps it could be a posh hotel or apartments as Pete (
@seaodyssey below) says.
Gareth
You have done the business with this weeks theme.
Shame about those old buildings, I'm sure they could be used for something. I used to live near to Holloway Sanitoruim when I was young, grand old place and now homes.
Holloway Sanitorium
I like the new tree on old tree Image (Andreas (
@Manxmaid ) Style) and I think the little spider is great.
The Image you picked fits the theme but is not the best for me.
You must have the Latest Sigma 105 Macro, the OS on mine is so silent, it's like there is none, which is true.
Pete
Thank you Pete, I appreciate the positive comments!
I agree about the buildings, and I hope you're right regarding this old relic. If they would do something like the link you posted, then that would be tremendous....those look really nice
(and very expensive)!
There is another part of the
'hospital', a little farther down the road, that was indeed turned into some nice apartments a few years ago....fingers crossed the present owner of this building goes down a similar route.

I sometimes think that the OS on mine isn't working....although I think perhaps it's just no good at macro distances....which kinda defeats the whole object really.
Still a cracking lens though!
Wow what a set for this weeks theme. I love the shots around the deserted asylum. Love wondering around these place. Such a shame they get left like this though.
Many thanks Chris for looking and commenting.
It is a shame indeed. This building, however, is bound to be developed sooner or later....there's all sorts of offices and businesses popping up nearby, so it's only a matter of time.
I only hope that I can get organised and get inside for some spooky interior shots soon before it's too late!
