Insomnia.

Only just come into the room here but been up since 5:30 when the cat decided that her early morning dry food snack needed to be deposited on the window sill... Have to admit that the puke's still there but only because if I clear it up I'll have to open the curtains and that'll spoil Mrs Nod's lie in.

If the weather wasn't grotty, I would have gone to an East facing beach to try for a sunrise but the rain hammering on the back windows made me think "Why leave a nice warm house when you can stay in, cuddle the cat and have a cuppa?"

Soon after the op a couple of years ago, I was always awake at about 4 and one morning managed to have the conservatory floor sorted. Got the insulated underlay down and all the laminate boards sorted but figured that nobody would really thank me if I started sawing the boards to length at 5am!

Heard imsomnia is pretty bad for your health....

Depends how you use the time.

If you decide drinking alcohol is your game then ye§ but I use my time carefully and try to read until I droo off, some music, I am writing a book so can research some material I need.

Finding balance is important

Good way to approach it imo.

The reason I mention it though, is that there has recently-ish been a study which found a correlation between poor quality/amount of sleep and dementia. Apparently cerebro spinal fluid removes the waste products from the cells in the brain in the same way that the blood circulatory system removes the waste from all other cells in the body. According to this research the removal of the waste product from brain cells can only take place during particular levels of sleep. Was a wee while ago but I shall see if I can dig it up if you are interested?

Can I ask what subject you are writing your book on?

Interesting study.

It may be a factor in the dementia condition developing but the wide range of research also points to other factors.

It was known that ex-pm Margaret Thatcher survived on 3 hours sleep per day and in her final years where she was rarely seen, she had dementia.

Along with others I have worked with, a colleague I met when I left university in the 70s, who was in his late 50s, also suffered insomnia. He died at 88 and was as bright as a button. His wife threw him out to walk the dog daily while she cleaned the house. He would meet his cronies and they would chat and walk ending up at a pub for a couple of pints. A nice daily routine. He had a great life and when I visited him over the years he always was the full ticket. I think his lifestyle kept him healthy and his attitude was tgat there was always something new to learn. The phrase "I'm bored" never passed his lips. Very much a phrase that I have never used. Met some very boring peple.

You asked about my book subject, it's generally a history of the social history of Cricket in Ireland both pre the setting up of the Free State in 1922, it's decline after and resurgence through the later years to the present days. It's an interesting hobby and, sadly, many of tbe players I have met and interviewed have since passed away.

Bit different for me

Born in England 1971 now live in Scotland (20 years) after a few years in Wales.

Family history is Irish.

Older Brother back in Ireland since mid 80s with kids now.

My wife is Scottish and we have 4 kids who consider themselves British with Irish roots.

Parents / Sister (Sister's kids) plus all Uncles, Aunties, Cousins etc are in England.

The recent referendum was interesting in our house LOL

I guess the Irish are big wanderers both out of choice and need (historically and currently).

If your photography takes you into Landscapes, Seascapes, Waterfalls and other similar (Sunsets)then Wales is a dream. Had a great few days around Pembroke in early October and with some fantastic weather well, Put it this way, I am still working through the shots I took.

I have been up a while now as my grandchildren were up early!

I've not been back to South Wales in over 20 years.

Reading this conversation has been more interesting than my current sleeping habits.

Kept me busy tonight reading back over it.

Hmmm so not so boring to send you off to sleep!!!

Catching up on Pink Floyd favourites here

Getting ready for the new album out (?) today?

Had to go for a pee at about 2 this morning and don't think I dropped off again afterwards. Cat needed cuddling and she's a loud purrer then I couldn't get comfortable. Too cold to get up and I wanted to sleep so didn't start reading. Did jobs that need some concentration earlier this morning since I know I'll be FFFA later!

I have pre-ordered it from Amazon but will not see it till I get back from Dublin on Wednesday.

Hoping it won't be an anti-climax.
