"Fallen"

iPhone 15 Pro Max

Got this tonight after a visit to my parents. No idea what kind of tree this is, but the way the light was reflecting off the branches made me think it was full of cobwebs at first.
Shot on my iPhone 13: just the standard Apple camera app; I manually reduced the exposure.

Not a post, as I don't actually have a phone. But I was sent a photo taken on an i-phone yesterday - and there were really odd artefacts, especially around hair, and in small gaps between hands/body. Turns out it was taken in 'portrait mode' so enhanced the subject and blurred the background. But it didn't do a very good job of it.

Look at the wheelbarrow, etc. Are they always like this?

Some of the older iPhones simulated the blurry background with software, and the newer ones do it by using two lenses and merging the shots. That said, the wheelbarrow looks pretty bad, it's like the software didn't know what was subject and what was background. It looks like all the other artefacts in the shot are where the background hasn't been blurred around the subject.

The iPhone uses a time of flight LIDAR sensor to create a 3D map which it uses to tell where the subject is in relation to any background and foreground layers. The technology has probably improved over the years but it was pretty rough in the earliest phones with LIDAR.
