motorbikes old/new...open thread??

I first saw a Nimbus in the early 70's, not with a chair attached though. I thought flat bar as frame members was a bit odd, I had just started an Engineering apprentiship (any one remember them?) and flat bar didn't seem a good idea to me. Nice looking outfit though.

Can't remember whether it was in BSH or Classic Bike but someone has fitted one of these with a supercharger from (IIRC) a Peugeot of some sort. Upped the power to a mahoosive 25 or so BHP!

Hi, this was the 3rd NIMBUS for me, but the first combination. The frame looks a little flimsy, but the bikes were said to be very well-made.

The sidecar is from the German company STEIB, not from Denmark ...

@Nod. Tuning had its limitations. The engine only had 2 crankshaft bearings, so I have read ... So 22hp were a reasonable output.

I was surprised to find prices quite low; around 10K €.

The one I've seen in a magazine wasn't THIS one. If/when I find time (and remember!), I'll try to find the magazine if I haven't recycled it.

I love the look of springer front ends but the actuality when riding isn't worth the compromise (if it's a daily/regular rider.)

Hi, it is one of those things one does for looks, I suppose. --- There seems to be a shock absorber (to the right of the spring), which may help a little ... ---

They work but not as well as telescopic forks. As you say, a decent shock helps but only a little! Better than the old friction dampers used to though.

I make a 400/4 look like a moped!

Quite fun but a bit too zingy for me - needs too many revs to keep it shifting.

And regular maintenance on those dreadful sliding caliper disc brakes. Talk about not using tried and tested methods for creating a brake that works, aluminium, steel pins and a good dose of salt laden UK winter riding, what's the word for it - electrolosis?
Lovely bike though, I really wanted one but never got round to it, then along came the VFR 400, oh how lovely was that 4 pot

I was more Suzuki.

Now Triumph - got 3 modern Bonnies. Want to get a shot of all 3 side by side, using the same backdrop as I used for the Bobber but the weather's so unpredictable at the moment and I keep running out of time to do the shot! The one time I did have time and dry, a neighbour was parked in the best spot!!!
