My rant about new iPad (or how to make it useful?)

I think I have explained that my main body only has USB1 therefore it takes about 2 min per photo :bonk:. On mac it connects via FW400 so no issues there.
If I shoot with 1DIII then there are no problems, but to be honest, I pick it up very rarely.
 
have to say it does sound like you bought one tool and you are trying to fudge it's use into things that laptops were designed to do.

an ipad does what it is intended to do very well - the things it isn't intended to do - it doesn't do them well. But that's not really a surprise is it?

How should I put this? My android phone can connect to FTP, access, read open, copy all my files back and forth and it cost me no extra. Why is iPad not meant to do this? Why do I need to jailbreak it to get some of it back? Please explain. This is not unreasonable.

I DO HAVE an MBP and use 99% time, but then I'm not upgrading till they release a proper update (8GB RAM by default, USB3 and IPS screen)
 
Because it's been designed that way. It's a walled garden approach and you're comparing that to open-source software. Makes no sense to me.

If you want to do it then jailbreak it. But otherwise you're suffering from a lack of pre-purchase research.

So just use your MBP.

you must realise that no one device is perfect. there are going to be things that one device does that another device doesn't do so well. If you want to do a tit for tat comparison then it's not really going to work.

For every one thing you say your android phone does better, i can pick something it does worse, but thats pointless. It is about what it does for you. A samsung tablet may well be the best tool for you, you probably should have done a bit more research before you spent your money :shrug:

If it was designed this way it doesn't mean it's good for us. Someone needs to stand up against it. 5DII was also designed with crippled video - look what was achieved by a bit of ranting on the web. 5DIII was even made into a proper cam.

BTW ipad currently has best hardware, so it made little sense to buy inferior tablet. It is sorely missing any open source spirit or any openness at all.

I realise all that, but I can't reconcile with the fact that apple can just tell us what we should or shouldn't do. We had MS with its anti-competitive practice, now they have taken the evil crown. Think about it, consumerism is BAD.
 
Oh please. It's not like anything has been hidden from you. Apple are where they are because of the walled garden.

If you think that an online rant like this will achieve anything then knock yourself out. But from where I'm sitting it looks like buyer's remorse from someone who didn't do their homework.

More to the point, you've already got a tool that does these things. Use that.

So the vast majority of users who are happy and a company that has nearly $100 billion in the bank should bend their will so that your needs are fulfilled? Can't see it happening. The walled garden approach is what apple have used for some time and have been very sucessful with it. I can't see it changing any time soon!

you make it sound like it's law that you own an ipad and you're annoyed about what you have been dictated to.

You choose whether you want one or not, apple didn't dictate anything to you. They just made a product - you either buy that product and accept it or you go buy another product.

I have to say I admire your honesty in admitting that maybe there are things out there that are better than Apple's offerings.

It always makes me laugh how whenever there is an apple based thread that it quickly descends into defensive and offensive comments.

Not long ago apple fans boasted about what it could do. Now they defend what it can't do because what an apple device can't do is no longer important in life. I'm sure Android is similar but you don't hear much of that now since it overtook apple in the smart phone share of the market.

Looking forward to my wife getting her iPad 3 so I can have a butchers.

As the owner of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 I can only say that my initial enthusiasm for it has waned. A DIRE like of quality tablet apps in Google Play has to be addressed. The fact that I can't put movies on it unless I am willing to jump through so many hoops is very disappointing. It's so easy on my wife's iPad.
Yes there are more Android-enabled phones activated globally on a daily basis, yet not one of them sells anywhere near as many as the iPhone does.
When you consider than Android-enables phones are made by HTC, LG, Sony, Samsung, ZTE, Huawei, Motorola et al it's a no-brainer that there are more Android-activations. Sales of all of those versus the sales of one? C'mon, it's not even a valid point!
 
I really don't get this thread. The iPad is fantastic for what it is designed for and for 99% of users. It's not designed as a raw editor, it is designed for email, apps, Internet and media player. Currently in the bar at centreparcs using this. Easy and light to carry, no need for laptop or the limitations that offers. Son was watching movies earlier on it too.

When I buy something I want it to just work. I don't want to mess around with things and the iPad is perfect for that. Yes, a USB would have been useful at times but not a main issue. It looks, feels and performs beautifully. Having used older windows based PDAs, it wins hands down. Compared the htc I also use, the iPhone is in a different league. The htc has loads more settings but also normall takes more effort or keystrokes to achieve.

Android is on so many different phones it is the modt used by default, not because it is the most successful. Try comparing iPhone with a single manufacturer device that runs android for a more realistic comparison. (y)

Another defensive reply though. It's like the social equivalent of someone calling your parents names.

It's odd. I just don't get it why people feel so strong about ANY brand. Maybe it's because I just don't care myself. I had to comment though cos this thread interests me. My wife is getting an iPad 3 so I need to do my research as technological stuff aint her thing.

You're getting a bit confused. You're confusing the iPhone with iOS. Apple is now by far the most successful mobile phone manufacturer in the world.

I'm a mad footy fan who gets and loves the rivalry. But a technology company... I just don't get it.

If you don't agree Apple is the world's leading mobile phone company, who do you think is?
