n1kcy’s 52 for 2023 - Weeks 52 Favourite Image of 2023 (cc always welcome)

That's a pretty robust ground squirrel Nicky, must make a hash of your backyard! :D

Week 21 Near By

This fits the theme twice as this is the family of wild geese that have nested on the pond in our garden, and the mother goose does indeed like to keep her babies very near by her side.

Very cute and very well taken.

Week 22 Irregular & Composite
A new variated spotted in Wales this week, it's either a Popglove or a Foxpy :)

LOL, made me laugh. I did a double take when I first opened the image...why can't I get my foxgloves to flower like that!

Week 23 Rubbish
Two images this week, not sure which I prefer, they were both taken in Cardiff yesterday with my new lens (Fuji 50mm f2) purchased moments before at the West + Wales Photography Show.

Also taken yesterday in Cardiff with my new Fuji 50mm f2 purchased at the West + Wales Photography Show.

I do like a Bass. Nice shot Nicky.

Three great images Nicky.
Rubbish: one bird's rubbish...another bird's treasure...
Sound: great street shot, I like it a lot

Week 25 Snappers Choice

Difficult to choose this week, so here's my 3 shortlisted ones.

Woody gets my vote from three good shots :)

I rather like woody too... he's posing for you!

I've taken hundreds of shots of woodies (and jays) over the last couple of weeks as we have a family in the garden. Both the jays and the woodies have successfully raised 2 young each and you can almost guarantee at least one of them will be on the feeding station everytime we go into the kitchen. (more pics of them here if you're interested: https://www.flickr.com/photos/n1kcy). I've setup some pretty mossy branches outside the kitchen window next to the feeders.

I have no knowledge of birds whatsoever but learns bit more with photos like yours on TP. Anytime I try to get a photo of one they fly off. I do like be silhouette one too.

Thanks. This is a juvenile great spotted woodpecker. You can tell them apart by the red markings. When it's on the top of the head it's a youngster, when it's on the back of the head it's an adult male and when there is no red on the head it's an adult female.

Here's a female, then the 2nd pic shows male feeding juvenile.

Outstanding set Nicky, I would have been hard pressed to chose between your chosen one and the woodpecker.

Week 26 - what an absolute cracker!

The flower on it's own would have been a stand out submission - but add in the little insect, and it's awesome. You've even caught movement in the antenna, and eye contact, and beautiful light on his body.

Week 27 - Torn / Ripped

I ripped this leaf then took 2 photos, one lit with flash and the other backlight with direct sunlight. I decided to convert the backlit one to mono for extra contrast but then decided I quite liked the colour one too as it reminds me of a Rhino.

Thank you, I took a whole load as the light was so great. There were blooming hundreds of them on the astrantias, bonking away so no doubt there will be even more soon lol.
