Sharpening software?

I seem to get adverts in my facebook feed for Photo AI , pro photographers endorsing the software, which is fine they need to make a living
The examples they show often aren’t very good unfortunately, one recent one of a cheetahs face the original one was better
nothing against their software just think that whoever does the adverts could show better before and after examples
Similar here. There are some big names, like a well-known Canon ambassador, who otherwise appears to know what he is talking about on his yt channel...
I don't mind them recommended products, decent products that they themselves are happy to use like Canon R5 II for example. However, I have an issue where the advert is for something you either don't use because they prefer a different product or would not even consider using.
I saw some application in the original 3 and did recommend it to people even though it never converted. This photoAI thing is just hard to recommend, this is like an early beta quality software

I had a recent email that included some before & after examples...that made the look oh so plastic!

If that is supposed the be a 'good' example of the output, I am not impressed:

PS I tried to copy them in here but that did not work ...will try again!

IIRC there was some discussion on the Topaz community forum that the default settings are too strong and, as in many post processing programs, the user needs to 'take control' to get the best results.

PPS also PC Mag editors choice
There's nothing in that review that I can see about sharpening....... :(

There are 5 mentions of "Sharpen" in the article.... found by using 'Find in page' search function.

Ahh I see thanks , I was tempted but will stick with what I have :)
That is galling to not have received any (meaningful?) response.

AFAIK you cannot buy 'used Topaz' software. The original purchase is linked to the buyers email with a unique license number. Possibly, also when first registered the Topaz servers use the owners IP address or even a hash number based on the computer Identity???

I have a confession to make!:)

I again contacted Topaz directly about my problem file and they suggested I send it to them and they would have a look at it.

I tried Photo AI again and found that it did a really very good sharpening job on the file. I can't imagine what I was doing wrong the first time I tried it......

Now to see what Black Friday brings......

A good outcome !

Was that with IIRC the most current version 3.3.0 ?

Did they advise/suggest specific settings in the sharpen tool? If so, what were the settings?

TIA:)

3.2.2

No, I played around with various settings and got a range of different results.
Looks like I will have given the most recent version a go and see how I get on with it

PS the reason I asked about settings (suggested?) was on the Topaz community forum I saw various comments that the auto/default settings are too aggressive.

Under sharpen I'm offered various AI models to choose from (standard, lens blur, motion blur etc) and then a strength slider, The latter makes a lot of difference.
