Simon's 52 for 2025

Two good food shop shots (trying saying that after a couple of pints) but your third submission is a cracking shot. The birds couldn't have been in a better position.

Thanks Bob. Yes this was the best of about 30 shots. Most of them I missed the head, they’re were looking the wrong way or there were too many other birds blocking the view

Birds for me too - a great pose from the pair.

I like that you've gone for a non literal interpretation of the theme, and in #3 almost a gob shot (Chris would have been proud).
I'm going to plump for #2 as my favourite though as 1, it is straighter and 2, the Parrot !!!

Yes, these two were very obliging, and slightly more colourful than the hordes of sparrows that were there seconds previously!
Thanks for looking!

Cheers Tim. Yes, not great with literal food shots tbh. I’d never make an Instagrammer
If Gob Shot comes up, I’ll have plenty of options from these feathered fellas.
Can’t beat a parrot.

I like the food shops the second shot is slightly better and having a parrot in charge is a brave decision.

Any of the three would have been good choices Simon, I particularly like the "Coffee till Cocktails" sign!

A good start Simon and three shots that fit the theme nicely. I prefer the second for the straight on-ness.

Thanks Bill. Yes. My kind of sign!
My kind of signage though I don't know which direction I'd go in first.
Cheers Ryan. Is there such a thing as too many signs?

Cheers Pete. It was a little awkward with low sun getting that second shot, but just about managed it.

Three good takes on it Simon :)

Oh I don't know.. the conversation must have gone:\

Why did you hire that parrot and put it in charge?

He told me he always sucks seeds.

I'm torn.

I like the coffee till cocktails sign, I like the light in the second and I love a goldfinch.

All great shots, but I think I'd have gone with the bird feeder.

I was torn. I loved the multiplicity of signs in the first. The second was easier to shoot with less people and other stuff in the way. And I do like the birds shot. Ah...decisions .....

As others have said, three good contenders. Interestingly, although the second is arguably a better photo (straighter), what makes the first the best for me is the look on the stall operators face, waiting for customers. That makes it a great Street shot too.

Thanks Lindsay. I tried (at least) to get the second shot as square as I could without the low sun top left blowing out the frame. The first shot was a quick across the road shot, hence why it wasn't straight, but it was the signs I was most interested in).
Appreciate the comments - it helps me to think more about my shooting (I class myself as more of a random snapper than a photographer!!!!)

Week 2 - Cold

Well I knackered my back somehow a couple of days ago, and couldn't get out when it was cold and frosty, so have come up with an alternate interpretation for this week's theme.

Cold by Simon Hiscocks, on Flickr

Ah yes, very nice. I trust it has some medicinal gin in it.

Hope you get well soon.

Love your second shot for January - the last food I would think of eating right now, and nicely framed too :)

And the G&T shot is making me very thirsty - looks as sharp as it probably tasted!!

I personally think this is the best shot we've had for cold.
SImple, Clean and to the point.
The background colours work perfectly for the shot.
The bubbles are nice and sharp.

Wow thanks Tim. I am equally honoured and humbled :) Genuinely thanks.

Goes to show what happens when I put time thought into a shot rather than my usual MO of just pointing and shooting

Thanks for looking and commenting Ross! Unfortunately my wife drank it….:(

Brrrrrrr. works for me :)

Food is a great shot, I love the first & it's a very original take, although the birds are definitely a great shot too

Your cold shot works really well too, looks very refreshing!

G&T shot looks good enough to drink, good framing on the drink as can see the back of the glass..
The background really works - care to share how you got it.

It fits the theme perfectly!
Thanks Simon!

Cheers Keith. It’s a white sheet (some sort of felty/plastic stuff - technical term), inside a cheapo plastic light box that I bought off Amazon a few years ago, just for this sort of thing. Comes with a number of coloured backgrounds and costs about a tenner.
