weekly Tango 32's 2014 52 challenge Week 39 -44 added

Freshly dug, what's wrong with that??

I like it, good colours in the sky, the greens of the trees and the red / brown of the dirt in motion.

I really like the "miniature" effect that you have going on here, is this just a result og the 5.6 aperture at full zoom trowing the trees behind OOF?

Cloning the spots out the sky needs doing though. :)

Yes mate took a few at different apertures but 5.6 seemed to work best will have a bash at the sky later, it was very dark and needed boosting in Elements but not notice the spots

Hi Craig, nothing wrong with that for fresh, with DK though not the most interesting image, i would have cropped the hut out too (y)

interesting thing to find by the roadside, interesting composition too, with the square crop and the closeness to the LHS, nice to see something different, so (y) from me.

like that you have the face not obscured by the ears or the pole.

(Bit of cloning above his head??)

Afraid so the Pole was a lot longer and holding a flag but could not fit it all in, did not want the pole going into nothing so thought I would try and clone it out and shorten to fit it all in

Ahhh thought it was one of the dust spots in the sky.

Looks like the brush you used was about the right size, I'd say it could do with being softer (hardness less), and make a first pass, keep the original so you can compare your changes, and then possibly make a second pass with a larger, soft brush, set to a lower opacity.

I had a quick go >>>>> here <<<<<< (also rounded off the top of the pole.... :)

That looks much better mate thanks for the advice :)

You;re welcome Craig, cloning is an invaluable tool.... Well worth taking time to practise with. I reckon I use it to some degree on every single shot I take!

Good image for shape Craig, liking the pov, tarmac leading in from the corner works well to add to the image, good colour and detail in the wood (y)

For me it's just a bit too tightly cropped down the left :)

As mentioned by Graham I did wonder what the 'mark' was above the pole. Cloning is about the only thing I've learned to do in E11, once I've done a tweak or two in ACR. I actually quite enjoy it in a strange sort of way :D

Hi, interesting sculpture but the crop is a little tight for me, and has been pointed out the cloning is very noticeable, might be worth having another go at it sometime

Hi Craig.....

really liking your Shape shot , keeping the face in view is good , bit of detail in the sky and nicely muted colors in the structure itself (y) Minor niggle is the tightness to the lh side of the frame but I suspect you may have been trying to avoid something coming in to frame ?

Twisted.....on theme , not exciting but sometimes shots aren't , I like the use of DOF to blur the bg....don't be too hard on yourself :)

Fresh.....really does look like the tilt shift effect , strong punchy colors , great use of DOF, yeah ticks the box for me :)

Hi Craig

Fresh...I Like it, what's wrong with freshly dug earth, most things have been said so (y) from me
Shape...Great bit of sculpture! I like the square crop it suits it :)

Hi Craig .... lots of interesting shapes in there making up the final sculpture, I like the angle of the shot. Well spotted, a good original choice for the theme.

Thanks all, my cloning certainly needs a lot of work :(

HI Craig

your wife is amazing.......that's awesome , the detail is incredible right down to the diamonte studs around the base , as are the colors :clap:

Right...photo......central seems to work though I do wonder about turning her a few degree's ? Background contrast's nicely & is really black , the glittery bits on the base ground it well (y) Needs a little more light on the rhs for me...simple solution is a reflector ( ebay cheapie £7 ) to bounce some light back in maybe ? Or play in pp.....might be easy if you shot RAW to selectively lighten the darker area's using ACR ?

Hi Lynne will pass your comments on to the wife this is her 5th or 6th cake so still learning.

- photoshop is a nightmare I don't understand the bloody thing I have elements 11 and cs5 but struggle to understand them, it's shot in Raw but I don't know what ACR is?

will have a look for a reflector but still not bought a flash gun

Yep, well done to the wife Craig, that's an impressive cake (y) Crops a little tight for me but it certainly suits the black bg. Good detail in the lower half but, as mentioned by Lynne, a little dark in the to half :)

I'm guessing you shoot in both raw and jpeg then Craig? I don't know how you store your images, but I load mine from the card straight into windows. The NEF file (which is the raw) can't be viewed unless I open it with ACR (Adobe Camera Raw), that's right click on the NEF file icon, then open with Adobe Elements 11. Then you can adjust the sliders as required. When your happy, open image, make any other adjustments you might want to do ( cloning, ect.) then save file as jpeg.

Hope that makes sense, I do struggle to explain things when having to write them down
shakehead.gif
............it would be a lot easier if I could just show you face to face :D

Here's a screen shot of what ACR looks like with a raw image and the sliders

only in Raw I then open in Elements organiser and then when I hit editor I get the screen shot you have shared, so I guess I'm using ACR lol, can you change the light levels in different areas of the photo using that?

Hi, excellent cake, she is very talented lighting issues have been mentioned, as for elements 11 I use it too, there are sliders in the window above which will do some of what you need
when you have finished there open the image with the bottom right button and you are then in PS there are 3 buttons at the top of the screen "quick" "guided" and "expert"
"Guided" would be a good place to start

I did wonder when you said it was shot in raw:D , I just presumed you shot in both but only used and worked on the jpeg.

As for just altering specific areas on an image, I think you can but I only use ACR for adjustments like lifting shadows or bringing down highlights/whites over the whole image so can't help you on that one, sorry :). My pp'ing skills are very basic tbh.

Fresh: Yup, freshly dug soil fits the theme for me. A pleasing shot (minus the above crit re dirty lens etc) with lots of interesting details and textures to explore.

Shape: You've captured this well. POV is spot on, emphasizing the size and prominance of the statue as well as leaving the open space on the right for the rider to gaze into. Looks sharp to me and the sky is well exposed to retain some of the cloud detail... One of your stronger pics I believe ;)

Numbers: Cool cake...and Im sure Sienna was chuffed. Wife must have a steady hand to do that lettering (y) A bit tight as others have mentioned and perhaps skewed to the right a tad so could do with a touch of straightening? Lighting needs attention too as covered by others above. A good record shot of your wife's efforts nontheless. Well done to you both

Number, ver creative. My daughter's favourite TV programme is the Cake Boss :)

Nice detail and I don't mind the crop. Nice natural light but a little fill flash would really make colours POP.

Cheers.

Very good cake. You've captured the pink well. I think the face is a little dark in this, but maybe - as Jason says - a bit of flash to bring that out?

Nature - Nice image. Although the flat lighting hasn't helped it looks like you've got the focus spot on

Action - Great action shot. I've covered rugby before now so no how hard it can be. Some great expressions in the faces as well.

Mono - Nice image of the little lad. I think crouching down to his level may have improved this.

Twisted - I prefer #1 from these two. There's plenty of interest in the bark.

Fresh - Cleaning up the sky has been mentioned. The slight halo around the tree line is probably a result of darkening the sky down although the stormy feel helps draw the eye to the main subject

Shape - Nice find. I like the subject to the left and am amused that the positioning makes it look like the horse is eating the top of the trees/hedge

Numbers - As has been said, I think the lighting needs evening out on this one. The lighting on the dress on the LHS seems about right to me.

Hi Craig...following on from Phil's post re ACR......if you have version 8.4 ( I think) there are a few more tabs/icons across the top on the lhs

The little brush next to the eye icon - if you click that it opens up a whole new adjustment panel which allows you to selectively fiddle -technical term :) - with parts of your image . I'm just starting to play with that bit but it's darned amazing what you can do with it ! I would imaging that CS will allow you to download the latest version of ACR to get all of the above icons ?

week some thing strength / strong

Last Saturday I had a shout with the water rescue unit tasked to a narrow boat with no engine river severn was high due to rain and there was lots and lots of debris coming town full size trees and garden shed, so I thought this would be a great idea for strength so every day after I walked the severn in upton with the dog and spotted nothing bigger than a branch...... so we have a panic shot of beer and their strength

Mine must be an older version Lynne as I dont have as many options as you ?

Thanks for the Comments / advice all

Photoshop is so frustrating

2nd strength for me. The low perspective really add oompph, as does the shallow DOF.

Crit, I had a quick edit and increased the exposure, contract and saturation and, although it didn't make a bit difference I felt it added a little.

Cheers.

Hi, agree with Andy 2nd pic for me too, maybe slightly brighter but thats being very critical
