The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

How many of you guys have and love Voigtlander lens on your Sony?

ME!!!!!

35mm f1.4, 40mm f1.2 and 50mm f2 apo. All are e mount ones which don't need an adapter. I've posted about a million pictures taken with the 35mm f1.4 in this thread :D I use the 40 and 50mm much less.

Soon as a few people get it on forums and provide feedback I'll be getting one. Ticks so many boxes.

Yes. I've been trying to get used to the idea of zooms but the only ones I use are the longer ones for MFT. This one does look good though and with a f1.8 prime would cover most of my uses. Not that I'll be able to bring myself to sell anything though :D

Same here, had 35/1.4 but sold it (was too soft for me, but loved the size) and still have 40/1.2, but want to swap with VM version.
I need to go back in the thread and check out those photos you mentioned - do you have Flickr account where I could see them? It will be hard to go through over 2k pages in this thread :)

Me. 21/3.5 for a while and 40/1.2 since about 2018/9 which is still here but I've not used it for a while now!

21/3.5 - Color Skopar - I'm thinking if this could be a good one for landscapes and some travel/ family photos. I have Tamron 24/2.8 and its my main lens, super sharp and 24mm is perfect for me for family travels. Getting 21/3.5 I would lose 1:2 macro, which I don't.
Did you like that CV21?

Yes. Lovely, small sharp lens.

I only sold it on because I wanted to combine my night sky lens with my wide lens to only carry one. I went for the 20G then switched up to the 24GM. If you don't mind the f/3.5 the Voigtlander is a beautiful lens.

No flickr for me I'm afraid.

I'm surprised you found the 35mm f1.4 soft as I don't find that at all not anywhere I'd place a main point of interest anyway. IMO the issues are that the extreme corners are never anything but a mess and the bokeh can be wild at the widest apertures depending on the scene.

Looks like your Mrs has found your camera wish list, one is not amused :ROFLMAO:

A7 and TTA 50mm f2.

Embrace the flare wide open.

Wide open again, plenty of contrast and colour but mad vignetting and swirly corners

I don't know what she does all the time but some of the time she's looking for sportswear. I know this because when I'm on line I get lots of adds featuring scantily clad JD Sports models.

Is there a downside to this shared browsing?

 Sunglasses, so no-one knows what you're looking at.

I keep getting adverts for 'Ukrainian Brides' appear where I don't have ad-block enabled.

I see those everywhere but I do get a lot of sportwear ads now and again and I do wonder if Mrs WW get my camera, lens and car ads.

Does anybody know whether Canon lens image stabilisation is still effective when using my Canon 100-400mm MKII and the Sigma MC-11 adapter on my Sony A7IV. I've a feeling it's not as good as when marrying the lens with my R6. Before I was able to achieve some sharp photos of a perched bird at 1/80 handheld but I seem to get a lot more motion blur at even 1/250 with IS on the lens turned on. Would I be better turning it off? I guess some experimentation is in order but thought I would ask on here incase anybody has experience with Sony IBIS working well with Canon Lens IS

Fantastic photos - this is why I love photography - you can use your camera to "document" your life, I'm not a pro and 70% of my photos are all things that happen in our life, rest are moments from my travels with family.
I liked the size of 35/1.3 but I wanted to upgrade my camera from Sony a7II to a7c - which should arrive on Monday, so sold 35mm and my a7ii to get funds for it. Kept 40/1.2, but want to swap it with VM version. I would still want to go back to 1.4 lens, 40/1.4 sounds even better than 35mm. Plus keep thinking of 21mm Color Skopar.
I bought 35/1.4 cause I loved the weird bokeh and those amazing bokeh balls with sharp edges. I'm hoping to buy either VM 35/1.4 or 40/1.4, just for those balls :D

Interesting. So CV 21/3.5 isn't good for night sky?
I was thinking of 20G before - I never do night sky, but felt like I could start taking them with 20G. Why did you switch from 20G to 24GM? Is 24GM better, or was it just for focal length?

I started taking night skies with it, but the aperture wasn't big enough for light collecting for me on the A7 - but, check the sun star on Jupiter!!

Here's my album - https://www.flickr.com/photos/ratters445/albums/72157703617457521

I went for the 20G for the focal length & faster aperture especially as I was cropping a little blending ground/sky images with the star tracker. But I found 20mm too wide for non-night sky use. FujiDave popped up a 24GM on here for sale that I couldn't refuse so I had a better (for me ) focal length & an even faster aperture for night skies. The 24mm is also great for night sky panoramic images too which I've really got the hang of now & I prefer to shooting just an ultra wide.

Are you sure you want to go from e mount to VM? The e mount ones perform better on Sony cameras.

Here's one for you...

Are you talking of the 40/1.4 Classic M mount?

I had the M mount 35mm f1.4 and I wouldn't recommend it. The e mount version is about a million times better on my A7.

Love those balls :D

Yes, I sold 35/1.4 FE and now selling 40/1.2. I want to buy VM cause I want smaller lens. I dont really see those VM on Sony issues, I saw photos from A9 and VM lens and they were perfect for me. I just sold my a7ii and bought a7c - spent a lot of money but wanted it so bad. I went on a trip this year for first time with my a7ii + 40/1.2 E version and this combo was too heavy for me, it was so tiring and annoying all the time - pulling it out the bag for every shot... It was Paris and it was 43C in a shade and I had covid, but still... I was exhausted after 15km walk around Paris each day with that combo.
So now, a7c will be my main camera for next years and years :) I may even get that new version of autofocus VM-EA9 adapter, just for VM40/1.4 and some day VM40/1.2
I still have that E 40/1.2, so will see if this better on a7c, but almost certain that I would prefer VM version.

Yes. I want 40/1.2 but cannot find used one for sale, so I think I will buy 40/1.4 first, just for those balls :)

Differences between the M and Sony mount 35mm f1.4's as I saw them... are vast and the e mount lens is IMP vastly superior on a Sony. All just my VHO...

The e mount is sharper and has better colours and contrast.
The M is much more muted and is more susceptible to flare.
Plus I really don't like the handling and the little finger knob thingy operation of the M mount lens.

I suppose the only plus point apart from bulk and weight could be AF with that AF adapter but you're adding bulk and weight with that.

The M mount 35mm f1.4 was perhaps the most disappointing film era lens I've ever used on my A7 and personally I think you're making a mistake going from e mount to M in this lens for saving in bulk and weight but hopefully you'll post some lovely pictures and prove me wrong :D

Well, it won't be possible if you are IN Glasgow. But what I'd do for the dark skies surrounding Glasgow is probably immoral and illegal! :ROFLMAO:

I do have a 40/1.4 - well, I sent it to Ffordes to sell on commission (that's another story.....) I've had no payment so presume they still have it but can't see it listed on their website. Emailed them last night.

One last one from yesterday, again into the glare...

uLr1eqb.jpg

I do like this TTA 50mm f2 but it has two glaring issues which to me are worse than its susceptibility to flare, vignetting and awful corners. Of the two I think that the vinetting is maybe the more serious and I don't know if it's that I'm not using it properly or missing something but correcting vignetting with the latest version of PS/raw seems to be difficult and I much prefer the older version. I'm having better success using the brush to paint exposure compensation into the corners than with the vignetting correction slider.

The lens is sharp enough wide open and this picture stands up well at 100%, focus on the eyelashes, and there's certainly good contrast and colour unless the flare is an issue.

Please let me know what they say. Maybe you could pull it back?
How was it? Did you like it on Sony?
Was it MC?

More A7rv anticipation and excitement.

Will anyone be ordering one of these?

It'll come as no surprise that I probably wont :D

I'm interested to see what it can do, if the af is really good and the the buffer bigger I would be interested.

Saying that I just bought a used 100-400mm tonight so I will have to sell something first.
