What small cheap native primes do you have please?

Depending what we think of as cheap... :D

The TTartisan 50mm f2 is £79 from Amazon and £56 from Pergear.
The Pergear 35mm f1.4 is £119 from Amazon and £95 from Pergear.
I bought from Amazon for the easy return if I wasn't happy but I was happy so I paid too much :D

I paid £150 for the Syoptic 50mm f1.1 off ebay. If looking for that one I've seen it wrongly described as a f1.2 (as mine was but I could clearly see it was f1.1 in the pictures of it) and it can also be badged as something else. It looks just about identical to the Voigtlander 50mm f2 and that helps if trying to spot it. Actually the first one I had was M mount and I used it with a close focus helicoid but the E mount one focuses closer without the helicoid.

Tempted to something?

And just to add, I ordered the TTartisan 50mm f2 from Pergear. Ordered with discount code @ £57.64 including delivery on the 30th April and arrived yesterday. The 35mm Pergear which I ordered @ £94.30 incl. on 29th April hasn't arrived yet but should be with me in the next few days. there doesn't seem to be any UK supplier on Amazon at the moment to order the 35mm from so it's quicker and cheaper to order direct.

It was a fairly vague bit of thinking about a tiny fun prime for the A7 for more of an everyday carry camera really. Nothing might not come of it, but I might look into it. Even M mount is a possibility.

In the past I have managed to grab samyang 35mm f2.8 for £130-150.
You can also look at 45mm f1.8 for around £220 if you want something faster.

I did have the 35/2.8........ lent it to my boy...... :ROFLMAO:

As I said, just a thought I had today. Went out walkabout last week with the A7 and 40/1.2 in the hand which was okay.

TBH I have film era 50's which have better performance across the frame than the TTA 50mm f2 as the new lens performs badly in the corners. The old lenses possibly have better vignetting performance to but the attraction of the TTA 50mm f2 for me is that it's half the size of a film era 50mm + adapter.

The Pergear 35mm f1.4 is better than any 35mm film era lens I have including the Rokkor 35mm f1.8 because the newer lens has less wild bokeh at wider apertures. The only real drawback of the new lens seems to be softness at f1.4 but you'll need to look closely to see it and field curvature which is highlighted in the Philip Reeve review but I can't see me being bothered about that at all.

I take it the 35mm GM isn’t small enough for what you’re wanting?

Well, that's my most used obviously. But I was thinking of something much smaller. I don't think it's possible though.
The 35mm f2.8’s already mentioned are tiny, just depends if you want a wider aperture.

The 35mm f1.8 is surprisingly small and light. If I do ever get the 35mm GM I think I’ll hang on to the f1.8 for travel.

No. Not interested in the f/1.8 at all.

If anything it will be tiny, manual focus, even M mount possibly. But as I said, it was only a thought.

A7Riii - 24GM

Picked a moisture filled night to test the A7Riii at night!!!

As it's very quiet. A couple of A7 and Sony 35mm f2.8 pictures reprocessed in PS2023.

I'm really impressed with the ability of this to cope with shadows and highlights.

When did the 1.32 firmware for the A1 release? Did I miss something? ‍♂️
Someone mentioned it on here a few days ago, I've not done mine yet as there's nothing to get excited about and I'll wait to see whether it's causing any bugs before I update.

New firmware for the A1 apparently.

No new features just big fixes.

Only just found out about this. Really disappointed as I was expecting a decent update. For their flagship camera I feel pretty let down with this camera. It’s a good camera but it’s really not great considering the price and how the competition has caught up. Sony have pretty much ignored this apart from some minor stuff.

I'm not sure if it's my monitor, but in the first photo the background in the lower part, especially on the left, the highlights look blown?

It is blown as there was very strong light and way to much DR there for the camera to cope with but this is still IMO an amazing result when looking at the raw and the bits that aren't blown here and it is a big improvement on what I was able to do in CS5 but I might not have been trying hard enough. With this PS2023 it seems to be easier to get a result I'm happy with, so I'm happy enough :D

Years ago I agonised over blown bits but these days I'm much more relaxed and I think it can add to a picture, maybe.

Oh... I've been taking pictures since I was 10 but years ago I would have thought of myself as an artist rather than an amateur photographer and one thing I did back then when using pencil or conte crayon or charcoal was to include blown highlights so here I am coming full circle with a camera :D

I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently and I’m starting to change my tune. I’ve always been disappointed by camera updates on the whole but recently I’ve been wondering why? I don’t get disappointed that my TV doesn’t have meaningful updates, or that my Mac doesn’t get meaningful updates etc etc. Sure they get updates, and with Apple you get a new software every year but they’re hardly ground breaking stuff.

In regards to the A1 it does seem slightly odd to me that they haven’t improved the subject list with AF, but maybe they can’t as discussed on here earlier.

Has anyone used Cotswolds Cameras before and can say how good they are compared to Panamoz, especially warranty claims please?

Trust pilot etc seem to give very good reviews, but I know that some reviews aren’t always genuine.

Nothing for definite any time soon, just playing with ideas ;) Definitely want the 35mm GM at some point in the future, but also might look at a different 50mm at some point too :runaway::LOL:

I know what you mean and what's strange is I haven't really felt like this with any other camera, but this is probably the most expensive camera I have bought and I think I was just expecting more. I'm not wanting too much more from it but I was hoping for improvements to the AF (subjects and animal eye af) and in video where I feel it is lacking.

Guys, the rumor guy is saying that Sony are rethinking their firmware policy so it may be worthwhile waiting just a while to see if he's right on this one.

It's by far and away the most expensive camera that I've had, but it does everything I need it to do. The only thing I have found is that dog eye AF isn't as good as bird eye AF, with birds it picks them up more or less every time even when tiny in the frame whereas with dogs I've noticed it doesn't always recognise the eyes. No biggie, it does a lot of the time, but not always.

With the rest of the subject tracking I don't need car, train, plane tracking, if I can't focus on these myself then I think I should give up

I'll not hold my breath.

I've hired the 50mm f1.2 GM for the weekend and wow what a lens, sharp, lovely rendering and the AF is insanely good. I can see why Tommy doesn't like the Samyang if he's used to lenses like this, that being said for the most part the Samyang works just fine for my needs.

The lens is big and heavy as expected, it's not too bad in single use but I do wonder what it's like for day to day use, I'm not sure it's a lens that I'd just pick up and grab as a wlakabout etc, probably a lens you'd reserve for specific shoots.

No, she’s a friend’s new pup. We’ve been taking Betty for the past couple of weeks to help socialise her (y)

Honestly Toby. I’m not at all sure you’ll send it back.

I'll not hold my breath.

Holding your breath might be a more sensible option for those looking to jump to Fuji or Nikon in the hope of a firmware update policy more to their liking. Unless they can see a clear advantage in moving systems.

Can't you be happy with a smaller Samyang or the Sony 55mm f1.8 Toby?

Every lens has its issues but maybe only a small % will be spoilt by focus issues or cats eyes whereas carrying a bazooka could be an issue every time you pick it up. Also, how many pictures do you really want with that little depth?

Just a thought :D
