Only my opinion again but this is where I think firmware or add-ons similar to PlayMemories, should be provided.

I can't see anything adding too much value over what A7RV+A1 offers (to me).
unless they manage to make IBIS be able to handhold like 5-10s which is crazy!

in terms of tracking, ergonomics, IQ, etc A7RV+A1 with added pre-release buffer feature would do it for me.

The new IBIS and LCD have been super helpful recently. I think I will want those.

hey, used it a fair amount around the house and in the garden but I have been away on holiday (it didn't go with me) so haven't taken it out much.
I am debating whether to keep the syoptic or the 50GM.
I have traded in the A7IV just today so that should recoup some of the money towards the A7RV. 50GM would completely pay for the remainder.

Yeah nice features, but not worth the upgrade imo. I'd imagine I'd get £2500-£3000 for my A1, the A1ii will likely be aorund £6500, it would have to be super super special for me to justify the cost to upgrade. A bit better IBIS, LCD, EVF and AF would not (for me) justify that cost (y)

The Syoptic is IMO amazingly good for the money. There are sharper lenses at f1.x but for whole images or even some close viewing I think this lens takes some beating... Nice falloff and bokeh too, IMO. I've taken pictures with that lens that I'll still be looking at and liking in 10 years time plus, if I live that long :D

If you do decide to sell it let me know :D

Sorry I missed this post. K&F concept 1/8 black mist diffusion. The 50mm has the cheaper Nano K series and the 35mm the more expensive Nano X series, in truth I can't tell a difference. I also use the Color Fidelity profile.
 
I have used a 77mm B+W 110 filter for years. I want a 67mm 10 stop filter, is there a cheaper option? I have downsize rings, but want a filter to go directly onto the lens. Are the Pig Iron any good, maybe too cheap?

I use Hitech Firecrest square type these days but have used Hoya Pro in the past which were good, and I took a punt on a Zomei once and that was surprisingly good too.

Correct. My mentioning was in relation to Toby's reference to possible improvements such as dog detection and when he wasn't aware of play memories, I posted the link. Personally things like this, shouldn't always be on the next model but included either by something similar to PM or firmware in my opinion.

Some stuff can not be added by firmware. Adding something like dog detection would mean a big change to how the a.f works.

Actually personally I prefer the way Sony do it. Just my own opinion based on conversations I have had with Fuji X photographers and to be fair only one Sony artisan. Fuji get lauded for adding new features by firmware when that isn’t the case. Before launching a new model they send it out for testing like all the manufacturers then based on feedback remove features before launch that don’t work properly. Later on when they fix the issues they add them back in by firmware.

Sony do the same thing but when they beta test and something doesn’t work as it should they just keep working and testing until it does even if it means holding back the launch of the new model. Fuji won’t ever hold back the launch of a new model because something doesn’t work, they just remove it, launch the camera and add the feature back later on down the line.

Play memories itself was a bit of a farce as they were basically asking customers to pay to unlock features on their camera that it was already capable off.

Play memories was basically the equivalent of what some car manufacturers are now doing like Ford and BMW for example. With newer models you have to pay to unlock features that the car already has as standard. For example you have to pay to unlock heated seats etc. Not sure if it went ahead or not but Audi also wanted to do this as well by subscription, so you had to pay £15 a month to unlock the heated seats.

Monk parakeets in Athens!
These are native to South America and not sure how they found their way to athens but apparently they did! (may be they were on holiday too?)
Not what I was expecting to shoot on my holiday. Shot with 70-200/4G2 and cropped a fair bit.
That lens is amazingly sharp! (of course ruined by posting on the forum)

There are thousands of parakeets living wild in London - the assumption is that over the years pet birds have escaped, which have then bred (repeatedly!) in the wild to create the large numbers seen today.
I'd guess something similar happened in Athens (and probably in other cities all over Europe).

The request asked for two frames, one from each camera.
Both shot at the same focal length, not equivalent.
ISO 1600 and F5.6
Then crop the Sony to match the Olympus in order to view whether one was noisier than the other.

Hi Trevor. Currently on my phone, but the Sony seems to display a little more noise in the shadows. However I'm not surprised if this is the case as its reletively close up, flat lighting that isn't really affecting the highlights. I find smaller sensors are better for close up.

Nothing to choose between the two, other than the colour of the table in the background is nicer on the Olympus. I’m curious as to why someone wanted this test though as you’re not directly comparing one camera against the other as one is ‘handicapped’?

whilst looking to replace my 16-28 that got water damaged a few months ago i may have also accidentally also added the sigma 150-600 sport lens into my shopping bag as it seems to be a good offer. It'll will be good to have something suitable for some motor sports stuff again this yeas , hopefully it'll not look like it's been bounced round the track being a x display model but I've not had any issue's with Wilkinson's previously, at £799 i didn't think it was badly priced.

Very pleased with the 12-24mm so much so I even jumped in the car and took for a quick test which is not like me at all. Rarely get excited about a new toy as its just stuff for work really.

Big thumbs up to L.C.E :clap: lens is proper minty fresh as new condition which really surprised me as they had 2 for sale and this one was nearly £400 cheaper than the other and also agreed to a further small discount. So I was thinking it might have a few signs of use but I can't find any at all and I am very particular. This is the second time I have had a real bargain from them having got an A7IV with a couple of hundred clicks for a ridiculous cheap price about 6-7 months ago. Have no idea what goes on with their prices but worth keeping an eye on as there is bargains to be had.

I remember that A74, I think i flagged it up here.

I've got a couple of mint cameras there cheap, my X-S10 is from LCE, had like 120 shots taken, £699 boxed with everything, even the box was mint. Today they still sell the body alone for £699 in some branches, although currently there is one for £599.

I picked up a A7R3 for £900 last year, when everywhere else sell it for £1200. It depends on the branch, weather or the manager in the store. Need to keep a tab on the site to spot the deals.

Looking on my (calibrated) laptop screen, the Olympus is higher contrast (which will reduce shadow noise) more vibrant and has a slightly different take on the colours. If I wanted something to use SOOC then the Oly looks better, but there's a lot more room for maniulation in the Sony shot if you view the raw as a starting point.

Sony colours are much better than they used to be but they're still not great imo. I was never entirely happy with Olympus though, thank god for shooting raw and using lightroom ;)

I actually quite like Olympus colours.
Don't much like Panasonic or Nikon.
Prefer Fuji and canon mostly.

Sony is somewhere in between all that :D

Maybe it's not about using crop mode all the time, but a comparison should one want the equivalent reach on occasion. Best of both worlds perhaps?

Sure I certainly use me A7rv as a crop body at times. But that's mostly to save space in the camera bag especially while travelling.

It doesn't make sense to compare a cropped result from a FF camera with a crop camera because that is not the intention of having a FF sensor. It does make sense to compare same field of view but they should be done at native resolution utilizing the full sensor. Cropping a full frame sensor to crop sensor equivalent will not give you better results really.

Basically intention of anyone buying a FF camera should be use the full sensor area or close to it. So cropping the results to m43 equivalent to make yourself feel better about the ISO performance of a crop sensors isn't how you'd be shooting in real world. You'd be using a longer focal length to match the field of view and use the full sensor (and yes the does mean using using larger lenses at times).

Hence I didn't think the test above made much sense.... Hope that makes some sense

(p.s. nothing against crop bodies, I have owned several in past and will most likely own a few more in future.)

both clearly need some denoising and deworming LOL but to be honest Sony has way more DR and is less overprocessed by a mile. I am sure which one I'd rather have, and yes, you can still work with both, and no I don't think that shooting at such ISOs is desirable at all.
 
I took my A7 out today with two lenses, one of which was a zoom. The light was poor but I had time to kill whilst Mrs WW was volunteering.

A7 and Sony 28-60mm. I'd wanted a 28mm shot of this for a while and I still want one in better light.

The sky is thanks to processing in PS and by eye at the time it wasn't even this good.

I've read good things about that 28-60mm but I have to say that pixel peeping todays pictures I think the 28-70mm kit lens is if anything better but maybe there's copy variation.

How many on here have bought a higher MP sensor camera to crop, loads I bet? Who uses a FF and hasn't ever cropped, not many? However I'd be more interested about the reason why Trevor was asked and discuss that.

I bought my A7Riii partly for that reason. Partly for the more advanced than A7 AF and other features. And mainly because a mate was selling it at a good price....

Anyway, the chat was about one of the 50GM lenses, it might have been about a year ago when the 1.4 was around..... and I commented that sometimes I find 35mm a bit too wide but I don't want to buy another lens ie 50mm so the suggestion was I could go A7Riii and if I had to crop a bit narrower, it wouldn't really make much difference to what I currently at the time had with the A7....
