The GAS confessional - all who suffer are welcome. :)

Treated myself over Christmas, Canon EF 85 1.2 II. Don’t need it, but always wanted it. Everybody seems to be offloading their EF lenses and there are some real bargains out there. Hopefully get it later this week. Will be sure to post a few pics.

Great lens, not perfect though, CA is an issue in the wrong setting but nothing else looks like it.

Bought a Sekonic light meter over the weekend. Does that count? :D

I regret selling mine. Traded for the 1.4 for AF speed. Maybe I’ll get another one :)

I want so many things...

Fuji X-T4 + spare battery
Sirui 50/1.8 Anamorphic
Tiffen 77mm 1/8th Black Pro-mist filter
Sony A7R3
Viltrox 75/1.2 X-mount
New Mac

Don't need any of that yet but hopefully 1 new body before end of March to take to Japan, whether that is a X-T4 or a A7R3, will see.

ok, the next item is not my fault, it's a shared item for our studio :) it's the westcott optical spot for gobos. We tried with an ancient spotlight last year but that is very unwieldy, this one will attach to any of the strobes via bowens mount.

A few things I’ve purchased recently that I didn’t particularly ‘need’…

Joby Gorillapod 3k Pro
Tide Optics Cinesoft 1/4 mist filter
Vanguard Veo Active 46 (definitely didn’t need a new bag but oh well)

Help…

Hey Nick! If you're seconding guessing the 3K Pro purchase, I might be interested in buying it off you on the off chance you'd like to sell it on. Was considering purchasing one tomorrow for a M6 MKII I just ordered. Keep debating the 3k vs 3k Pro.

:) I’m going to give it a bit of time as only had it a little over a week, but it’s definitely a very solid bit of kit. Seems a lot more sturdy than the standard kit I had a few years ago.

More musing...I am still musing. I think getting an X-T4 would be a mistake, sure it is an upgrade from my X-T1 but the body is almost the same size as a Sony a7III or A7R3...and almost the same price (give or take £100. The A7R3 i think would have better IQ at the end of the day and would actually give me something different to the A7III that i have (and a 3rd body for work)....so just getting the X-T4 would not be such a good idea for now, with the price still like 70% of it's new. Rather than the A7R3 at like 40% of it's new price.

Getting a X-T3 for about £600 would be a much more sensible option for identical IQ as the X-T4.

Is my logic....logical? lol

Don't know if it's logical but it would fit with my normal thought process.
Even 40% of the new cost is more than I'd typically want to spend on a digital camera :)

I just saw an A7R3 in Average condition popped up for £900 with shutter count of 13442. Going to see it in person tomorrow before deciding comitting but it looks promising.

p.s. MPB probably call that "Like New" :exit:

I think I'm seriously in need of help now..... found out about a very low shutter count Nikon D200 and within minutes I'd bought it!!! I guess I'll be selling my current one, which has a just over 6K shutter count. The one that's coming has only 1372 on it....

Although I bought a 801s from Japan, it wasn't 100% mint and unused, I spotted this one, totally unused and boxed, just couldn't refuse, the one I bought in Japan will now get used.

There I was minding my own business up an isolated valley in North Northumberland when the wind & rain got up and I found myself transported Wizard-of-Oz-style to Gateshead where a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens fell into my hand and I was then transported back to the isolated valley where the weather & light had improved dramatically... A new lens? a week off work? All seems rather contrived & convenient :coat:

Or, you could have a back up, if finances allow? Then you couldn't succumb again....

Love Mirrorless and my Nikon Z7 but being brought up with the sound of mirror slap on SLR's and DSLR's I have had a hankering to go back to owning a DSLR. First up was a D810 is good condition and then a week ago a D5 with less than 1500 shots appeared on LCE at an incredibly good price, two days later it was in my hands. The camera was as new, everything was wrapped in original packaging and the camera doesn't have a mark on it, where the alleged 1500 shots were taken I don't know, maybe a silk lined box such is the condition. And the price, well it was £1400 below cameras with similar claims of 'As New - exceptionally low shutter count' on the internet.

Looking forward to getting out and about with my new Nikon DSLR's 2023 should be good fun.

I've already got a D800, 2 D700's and a D70, so don't really need to add another D200 as a backup.... .

I keep getting the urge to buy into the Leica SL system………. And I really cannot think why?

I keep looking at the 800mm f6.3 Nikon Z Lens and imagining myself in all of the scenarios of using the thing but then again I could buy nearly 3 second hand “sigmonsters” which are heavier and longer for the same money.

The silly thing is, I already have a Nikon 500mm F4G ED VR Lens and the TC14III teleconverter which is giving me really nice results at 700mm F5.6 but I just want more range!

Even the newer 500mm PF is interesting as it’s much lighter so doesn’t require the tripod plus gimbal approach which is also an option.

To add to the mix, I’ve also been looking at the new M2 laptop range from apple just so I can photo edit in a different room, even though my office PC is literally state of the art.

I need help

Problem with the Sig monster is that they are no longer supported by Sigma, I did ask before buying one.

Yeah I’ve read the same. Such a shame as they’re great lenses!

I think I might be at the stage of going Z mount for my next super telephoto as the weight and shorter length of the lenses is quite appealing.

I have promised my good lady I will sell some of my under used kit on ebay, so I have been watching how the prices are going. So far my 2 bids and a "Best Offer" have been unsuccessful. I still haven't put anything up for sale. :(

I somehow seem to have managed to end up with a pair of Minolta Dynax 9s.

I'm taking it quite well.

Anyone got a million quid for a Canon? Not even a box! I am outraged.

I just gave one of them to my daughter rather than bin it. Don't think she really wants it, maybe I should ask for it back!!!

I need to stop looking at LCE Secondhand page every hour to see if there is a Used X-Pro2 turns up....my holiday can't come quick enough for me to stop thinking about gear and actually use the thing that i bought.

Speaking of which, my Pro-Mist for the X100 has arrived!
