I did use a 6 stop ND filter. My main issue is my rig is way too bouncy but I have some thicker ali poles arriving next week and I plan to add a tension strap too.
 
Loving all the recent posts and wish I could dedicate more time to doing this style of photography but unfortunately my new job is taking most of my free time. As such I've put my Wood's Pwr-grip setup on the sales forum. Handy set up (minus the pole) if anyone is looking at getting into rig photography.
Keep up the good work everyone and I will continue to marvel at some of the images you guys produce.
 
Hello, long time lurker here. Loving some of the shots in here. I tried a few setups but still don't think i've mastered it yet.

First setup was made by a mate. Very basic and would only work on flat surface. Looked dodgy as hell but never had any accidents with it luckily!

Got a few decent shots I thought.

I then moved on to Manfrotto clamps and cups with a ally pole (can't remember the length but it wasn't long enough)

Still managed to get a useable shot good enough for a cover somehow!

Now recently being using a 4 metre carbon boom with the Manfrotto gear with much better results. First time to mount one to a roof rather than a bonnet.

Wish I had more time to play with rig shots but my carbon boom will be going up for sale on here soon :(

Im looking into building a rig for myself in the next month or so and i was looking at using carbon fibre tubes. Im not worried about joining them together (the plan was aluminum tubes and bolts but then i have a friend with a lathe so i was thinking about basically a nut in one end of the tube and a bolt in the other so they screw together) but do people think these tubes are thick walled enough to support a camera?

Don't think that would be thick enough. The carbon one I'm selling is around 50mm in diameter and there still a bit of flex.
 
I have been mega busy recently so have had no chance to get out to try rigging again now that I have my new aluminium pole and ND filter. found an hour this week but by the time I had got to the location and set up a gale had blown up so only got the one hastily taken shot. Fairly happy with it due to circumstances but much to learn especially in PP.

Yeah thanks Oliver, I was annoyed at only getting the one shot but camera was bouncing around a lot in the wind and thought I better call it a day, but pretty pleased when I saw how the sky had added to the picture. Considering the amount of wind the new pole stood up pretty well.
 
that's a great effort, wind is a killer especially in a wide open location like that. Your PP looks pretty decent too mate. Only crit would be to rebuild the top of the roof and smooth the white edge where it meets the background, you can see its a bit bumpy. :)
 
Thanks Sammy, I wasn't happy with the roofline and did wonder if anyone would notice it, I'll have another go at smoothing it out a bit.
 
£100 not possible, I put mine together for around £350 with a DIY aluminium boom but pro kit from someone like Car Camera Rig with a carbon boom will cost in excess of £1000.
What you need is all in this thread but may need an amount of searching out. As a minimum you will need the following:

1 x 4-5 metre boom pole
2 x suction mount
3 x superclamp
1 x double ball head joint and camera mounting bracket ( or magic arm or similar)
1 x circular polarizer
1 x N D filter

This is an absolute minimum that is required but you soon realise that things like multi swivel joints, extension bars and extra suction mounts make life much easier.

Thanks Liam, I am really pleased with my new aliminium pole, it has very little bounce and is so easy to use so getting much sharper images now, however the coloured photo was comped from two shots, the rigshot and a still of the car to get even more sharpness. The B & W one is just the moving rigshot.

Lol and now you want me to operate a video camera as well.
Rig is set up with remote trigger, led light source was placed on the ground angled towards the back of car, car then pushed backwards past light whilst triggering camera and ducking out of sight. It works but would be happier if I was at camera end to steady it a bit and someone else was pushing.
 
Great stuff going on. Still not taken the plunge and got myself a rig.

Does anyone know of anyone selling a CCR rig?

@Remedi the second one is my favourite, for some reason I don't think you get much of a sense of speed from the first one. I love the 2nd one tho. great touch with the leaves. Did you have that planned or just happen upon it?

Do you shoot these in RAW?

Yeah I agree with that. We had a big bags of leaves so chucked them on the car! it's a work in progress so added to the 'Ratty' look.

Yes I did shoot RAW, always do
