Well on balance, ;) I guess its some kind of micro-adjustment knob,
now what kind? something to do with a rheostat perhaps?

Which is the Sound Balance on my Creative PC speaker set. The volume wheel is above (sorry Jim, I was being a trifle harsh there). The other clue was alluding to "fader" which I would have allowed, I think.
