Ok..Thanks. So, it sounds like scammers have either stayed at the hotel or more likely, just sat in the lounge..(quite clever) in the past and used it's internet. It's a pity because we enjoyed it so much we didn't want to come back home. My BP got down to 122/76, it's normally 145/78. Probably due to not involving myself in HT :D ..and not listening to LBC and Five Live phone-ins. It's mostly retired people that go there, no children allowed and just about everyone we spoke to were on their umpteenth stay. It was recommended to us by friends who go three times a year ,usually twice in winter, to get away from the cold and rain of South Wales :D Every day at about 2.00-3.00 pm it got to 26/28C. One person was telling of "so and so" who had been going for 30 years and must have died as they hadn't seen them for a couple of years. The buffet meals were excellent. We don't normally do three week holidays.I think we'll be back every winter now.We also looked at September this year, then November and December but the flight times are awful with all the holiday companies. Departures at 6.00am, getting there at midnight..getting back to the UK..anywhere in the early hours. We won't put ourselves through that, though. Jan/Feb are usually good flight times both ways.

Possibly, but also the IP the ip wouldn't be dedicated to just that place.
Some members here, share the same ip address, and yet live miles apart.

People writing to, and complaining to, the BBC.

I never watch it, but as I understand it, it showed MK in a really bad light,
You know, that part that it seems was filmed in Barnet.
Why can't some people separate fact from fiction, and realise they are actors are doing a job, for which they get paid for?
And of course not forgetting the script writers who have to make this stuff up to stay in work.

I know we might not have any for Charles yet but why did George 5th cipher not have the roman numbers for 5? I think Victoria can be excused as she may remain the only VR unless George 7th first born is called Victoria,,,

George 4th had only died 80 years before George 5th came on the throne,,,,
 
Notice (wife and myself) of new income tax coding (year 23/24) arrived, I had 10% of wife's allowance as she didn’t use it all, this has now vanished? but showing on wife’s paperwork as being allocated to me, Mmm, 1 1/2 hours on hold till I got someone human to talk to she confirmed “that’s not right! I’ll look into it” and she hung up on me! This leaves me to assume after looking into it we will receive the outcome in the form of a letter and new tax codes, soon I hope cause now we both are maybe paying too much tax?

Had a manger into their forties who tried to use love island examples to guide the younger staff through their love life woes as if it was a factual documentary.
 
WBMT, people taking a 100-400mm lens to the photography show, standing 15 feet from the models/sets to get their chosen shot, and then getting upset when people, who seemingly haven't seen the model/sets, walk down the aisle in front of them...

Baltimore bridge being hit by container ship??? I've been under this bridge several times when visiting relatives. It's well lit and easy to see! (even at night) What in the world were the crew doing? Or was it mechanical failure? Either way, it's one heck of a shock.

Wow!!!!

Sadly it does sound like the death toll will rise :(

The news reporting is now saying the ship lost all power and that they did advise the port authorities.

The one thing that I note(?) is that bearing in mind the size of ships (now?) using that waterway, why wasn't there mitigation in respect of barriers around the bridge support piers to reduce the effect of such impacts??? Plus, IIRC the USA unfortunately has some history of poorly built & maintained infrastructure including the levees that collapsed in the flooding by Katrina :facepalm: :confused:
 
We went to the seaside today and Mrs WW wanted fish and chips so off I went to join the long queue. There's always a queue but there's a sign telling you where to start and stand and there's ropes to guide you so you really can't go wrong and even the Chinese tourists manage perfectly fine.

Why then would someone follow the queue and then when served turn and walk through all the waiting people constantly saying "Excuse me"? Why not just get served, turn and walk out the way you're meant to walk out? Through the exit. Where there's no one queueing.

The first three people to pull off this stunning maneuver were all women so although I was baffled why it should be I thought "It's a woman thing" but the next person to do it was a man with a family in tow. From his accent he was a tourist not a local but even so and even if he couldn't read surely he had some common sense.

People going in the exit or out of the entrance when it's obvious what you should be doing do baffle me.
 
Companies that don't update their stock lists, so that when you've done your searching, got to the (online) checkout and entered everything that you have to, you are told that the item is out of stock! grrrrr!

Well got mail from HMRC, my tax is now effectively a minus, they added a figure to my pension to ensure the ‘correct’ tax is taken, no explanation, but no change to my wife’s coding(yet), called HMRC and the staff member assured me “that’s not right, I’ll look into it”, I’m not expecting a good result.
 
I got a mail from them, apparently I underpaid by £80 last year, I am a pensioner and have a small private pension the tax code on this has been changed for this month’s pay period and it appears they have taken the full amount they allege I owe
 
Got an email from RAC on 11th April advising me that my renewal was due of the 15the May

A couple of days ago I get this

"Your breakdown cover runs out on 03/05/2024. "

Rang them to find out what the actual date is and get told that it is the 3rd and the other date is something to do with the cover I get with my car policy which sn;t due for renewal till 1sr November so no idea what he was on about except it appears I may be losing 12 days cover.
He then went onto explain that the 50% increase was not to do with y record, never called them out in the time I have been with them, so stopped him and said no matter I won't be renewing anyway7

To say I am baffled is an understatement, I've cancelled the direct debit so the won't be getting ant money from me


.

Takes me back to when I used to volunteer with a charity that ran summer camps for 10-18 year olds as part of its work. Chatting away to a friend as they were refueling a petrol generator and realised they casually had a fag on the go....Their normal job was a private fire-fighter for one of the local car factories....
 
WBMT, driving around the M25 a row of 5 cars pulled out of lane 1 in accordance with the Red X above, and then started to move immediately back into it less than 200 metres down the road and well before the next gantry came into view....
 
A facebook group admin using 500+ keystrokes to bitch and moan that it takes only 1 keystroke to remove a completely, obviously inappropriate post but 6 keystrokes to ban someone, so doesn't ban them.

It's hilarious.

Does anyone have an answer to this ?

I'm having a Tissot watch sent to me directly from the company in Switzerland and it will arrive tommorow or Saturday. I got an Email from the carrier DHL asking me to "authorise now" if I didn't want to have to sign for it.

Here it is. Quickly and easily authorise a no signature/non-contact delivery for your DHL Express shipment by clicking "Authorise now".

It's not a cheap watch and almost certainly Tissot will have paid for delivery with a signature..assuming that service has to be paid for. Who benefits from me not signing for it ? The driver who could leave it under the front doormat ? I'm a cynic and I don't think for one minute they've asked that for my benefit. What if goes missing ? I have no comeback if they say it was delivered. I'll be signing for it,for sure. I have an Email from Tissot saying it's been shipped.

When I had a lens returned from its service at OM in Portugal it came DHL and I got the same email.

I ignored it and the driver knocked and though I did not physically sign I was happy that the system worked for both parties.

So, the pre authorised method lacks clarity of just what would happen if do "authorised" ,???
 
It allows them to leave it in a safe place and claims that you are taking responsibility from the time they leave it there.

In terms of general sales legislation it is dubious because the relevant legislation states the seller is responsible until goods are in the possession of the buyer, but many companies try and claim that it the receivers problem if left with a neighbour or safe place and subsequently goes missing.
The receiver generally has no contract with the carrier* so shouldn't be issuing instructions to them directly.

The even more fun bit is buried in the terms of clicking the link and assigning a place, as some carriers automatically save any nominated place for future consignments.

It is an area where the legislation is now 10 years behind the technology, particularly with the way covid changed it rapidly, and really needs an overhaul with modern carrier practices in mind and them either given specific legal guidance or explicit prohibition.

(* ignoring any statutory obligations such as collecting import duty and taxes).
 
Lots of people can't be in to accept such deliveries, so rather than keep trying to deliver it with the signature, they'd rather leave it somewhere safe. We have a meter cupboard beside the front door (big enough for a wheelie bin) so leave the keys in and a sign on the front door asking them to leave the parcel in the cupboard and post the keys. The only carrier who seems unable to post the keys is the postie...

It came today and I was ready to sign and he said., "no, no need to sign. He took a photo of the parcel in my hand but not the rest of me. So, I'm still non-the -wiser re opting out of signing.

Thanks. It did occur to me that might possibly be the reason. Ie. to blame me if they leave it somewhere and it goes missing. Sneaky sods..Lol .I have noted you comments re who the contract is with. .On Friday and Saturday nights I listen to LBC Radio Legal Hour in which a barrister..the same one each week, takes calls from listeners with all manner of problems,mainlyin relation to sales gone wrong and asking what their rights are and/or what to do .

As I said in my original post,I knew it wasn't for my benefit. I expect I'll offend those on here who run businesses but, apart from one-man/family businesses where reputaion is key, I have no trust,whatsoever in larger organsations. My wife told me it was good that I thought there was more to it than appeared..ie saving me havinbg to sign but it's not that, it's my inherent distrust of business.
 
A cyclist not wearing his head guard but he did have it with him, dangling from the handle bars.

He was on the road rather than the pavement though so kudos for that.
 
Temperature high teens outside. We are sat in a public car park , next to us is a diesel car, engine idling, windows down. Why? Its bad for the environment, wastes fuel and probably doesn't help the emissions controls, DPF etc. If you desperately need to run the A/C then shut the windows, otherwise turn the engine off.

What is it with diesel drivers that do this? are they afraid their engines won't restart if they turn them off?

Bus drivers were often guilty of that if they were at a bus stop for any length of time. It happened a lot in town in the street where all the bus stops are until they were told to turn the engines off. I think that practice has all but stopped now with awareness re polluted air . Bad enough for adults but babies and toddlers in buggies are at face level with the exhaust.
 
It's a lovely hot and sunny day here. Two people have just walked past just seconds apart. The first was a very attractive young lady appropriately addressed for the summer holiday type conditions maybe in shorts and a sort of vest top thingy, not overly revealing or anything like that. The second was a male youth wearing the usual uniform of black/dark jogging type trousers and hoody, with the hood up. Unless he's a vampire how's he coping?
 
I walked our dog earlier, it is very warm here. I passed a lady wearing a puffa style jacket and gloves!

I’ve noticed that too , regular visitors to our neighbors leave their car running in the road while they are at their door chatting, someone walking past could get in and drive off and their insurance won’t pay out
 
I usually stay as covered as possible to reduce the amount of sunscreen I have to use. If I think there's a chance of overheating, I slap some factor 30 on my arms as well as my face and neck but try to avoid it if possible.
 
Yup. I'm very fair skinned and freckled so even spending something like 15 minutes in strong sun can lead to sunburn so I do use a lot of sun block and after sun. My mam had skin cancers removed from her face and both arms so I'm hoping I don't have the same issues.

I do still think that youth was a tad over dressed though :D
