Yes
i am looking at getting a high end compact to supplement my DSLR, i have narrowed it down to the Nikon P7000 and the Canon G12... now being a Nikon fan i favour the P7000 but keep reading about RAW processeing speed isues?? has anyone experience of these camera and the issues with the RAW processing of the Nikon?

I don't think Nikon (at least the nikon you know and love) actually make compact cameras.

Olympus Pen? Better IQ than both and down to £275........worth a detailed look.

I have a powershot g11, and its great. No need for brand loyalty, the g12 is a stonking camera

yea i am being swayed towards the G12 .. i will always stay with my Nikon DSLR !! but there are good and bad things about the P7000 and the G12 ... the main issue for me is the problem nikon are having with the RAW processing ...

G12 is excellent. A Nex is better, but it's only as compact as the G12 if you stick with the 16mm prime. If you lust after a 24mm prime with real bokeh, then this is the one for you. If not, then the G series has much to offer. Note that the G12 isn't as fast as you'd think ,and although it's quicker than the P5000 it's still no processing demon.

[I bought the Nex as a stopgap/backup for a Leica, and as yet I'm still having too much fun with the little guy to look at M bodies.... at least for a few weeks! There's some serious debating between a new Summarit and a secondhand Summicron going on, though, over at this end... I overlooked the Nex for a long time as a result of my misconceptions about the camera, and Sony.

thanks for this advice i recon i will go for the canon G11 or 12 ... if the only diference between the G11 and 12 is the HD video i will go for the G11 as im not interested in the video!

I have also been thinking about the Canon G11. From what I understand it's the one to go for and available at a pretty good price second hand. I am a Nikon user and love there SLR kit but I don't seem to get along with their compacts. Canon have that side of the market sewn up for me.

I had a look at the new Nikon flagship compact, and its a cracker. Lovely thing to use.

i love the look of the new Nikon P7000 but there are big issues surrounding it write speed for RAW seemingly ... i just need a decent compact to chuck in my rucksack that is always ready when i dont need my SLR ! the G11 or G12 is winning so far !
