Nikon D750 & D780

Still waiting for my "Send it in" e-mail - how are people sending theirs? In original box? RMSD?

Still waiting for my "Send it in" e-mail - how are people sending theirs? In original box? RMSD?
Mine went back in the original box with some extra bubble wrap, all wrapped in brown paper & miles of parcel tape ;)

The email from Nikon inviting me to send it in included a link to download & print a customized mailing label & receipt & shipping instructions. The label was stuck on the box, I presented both the box & receipt at our local post office, got the receipt stamped & signed & that was it. It cost me nothing, I understand Nikon self-insure the cameras during shipment.

I'd gathered that Nikon e-mailed a pre-paid label (their acknowledgement notification told me that much) but I was a little worried about sending something of that value uninsured and/or unsigned for.

Not yet used mine in anger, just taken a few shots of the cat! Not seen enough sun to see if the flare's there, let alone how bad it might be.

It's just about any backlit subject Nod, but even then only in certain scenarios. I've seen some videos and people were saying they only experienced it at longer focal lengths and sometimes not at all. I've not had a chance yet to look through my images to see if I've just missed it previously.

Iam still waiting my my email as well, registered mine for repair ten days ago.

Ditto. I also registered mine 10 days ago. I haven't personally noticed the issue even though my serial number is affected, but if and when I decided to sell it I don't want this issue to come back and bite.

DPD delivered my D750 back from Nikon just after 9am, the box feels very cold so I am resisting the temptation to open it until it has reached room temperature :(

From reporting the problem to having it repaired & returned took 9 days in total.

I would not have your patience Brian!

Registered mine within a day of the service advisory and still waiting for my email so I can send mine in.

Mine is now back from Nikon at at the retailer through whom I returned it. Off to pick it up later. I was one of those who rejected my D750 early just before Christmas when it was obvious there was an unusual and unacceptable flare problem, despite Nikon UK still describing it as a "feature" at that time! Right now I don't know what the job sheet states, but no doubt the camera has a "little black dot"?

That was fast. Mine arrived with Nikon Wednesday, I received an email this morning saying expected repair date was by 6th February.

I've just had another email saying they're done and on the way back to me for delivery Monday.

One body invoice says - Front Body Unit

The other - front body unit, side rubber unit, rear rubber unit, grip unit, cover

It was. It had better be when they come back!
ill wait until any af issues come to light after the repair. I cannot replicate the flare issue in anything I generally shoot.

The blazing quick af is amazing on this body.

I got dragged out shopping this afternoon so my D750 sat in its box warming up until 7pm. I am pleased to say it looks as new as it was when it went away, and as far as I can tell with an hour or so playing with it indoors it seems fine. The AF is as snappy as ever. I still need to fine tune for my lenses but I will wait for daylight to do that.

I thought for a brief moment I had a problem with the viewfinder display text being clipped as reported earlier in this thread but my eye was not central(vertically) in the viewfinder so the 'problem' went away when I moved my eye.:)

What do you mean fine tune for your lenses??

I'd be very interested in seeing some images once you're ready to post them!

ISO 12,800 for a bit of fun (at f1.6!) which has also been pushed a fair bit in LR as it was still really dark, no noise reduction whatsoever on this, I was basically shooting in the dark apart from the awful disco lights, fun experiment though.

Nice easy going ISO 1400 (funny to think not so long ago this would nearly be maxing out a digital camera)

25,600 on the first one to get the exposure closer to "correct" and less boosting in PP would probably get a cleaner result. As you say about the second one, it's not that long ago that 1,600 was pushing the boundary as far as useable results go.

I've got the hard limit at 12,800 on my Auto ISO, but as you said I may as well increase that to 25,600 for those extreme moments. They loved the first dance photos anyhow, particularly those converted to B&W to get rid of those nasty colours.

Still got lots to learn (it was my second wedding) but really, really enjoying it.

I only use Nikon lenses but thought I would try this a while back. Guess what, they were all 100% on.
So were mine, I was just going to do it to check the work that Nikon had done on my D750 hadn't changed anything.

Chris, I think you can set a user setting to allow higher ISOs to avoid the auto taking it too high in "normal" use. Must admit that I still haven't used my 750 in anger - must get properly familiar with it before taking it to Iceland!

My minimum shutter speed is 1/200, which is very very safe I admit, but did mean I didn't get a single lost photo due to movement at the wedding. Considering my slowest lens is f2 it should very rarely be an issue anyway. Presumably it doesn't get much darker than a January wedding at a very compact, very old and dark hotel, so hopefully it should get easier from here in that respect (next wedding is in May at a nice big bright venue!)

I'm in the same boat, we are off to Norway next month, sailing from Bergen on the Hurtigruten ferry service up to the Russian border & back again. I am slowly working my way through the online manual :)

Hope you have a great time on the old HurdyGurdy! Mum and Dad did the trip a few years back in autumn and didn't have great weather for photography. Had a great trip other than that. Didn't get much time off the boat at each stop and some of the stops were at night IIRC.

We went a couple of years ago, my wife enjoyed it so much we decided to go again. It is very relaxing, however we have a 3 hour night-time snowmobile trip booked so I am hoping to get some night photos. A bonus would be to see the Northern Lights from the shore, we saw them when at sea last time. I am hoping the low light performance of the D750 coupled with the Nikon 20mm F1.8 lens I have on order will help me get some good photos.

I've just treated myself to a Tamron 14mm f/2.8 for the same thing! Didn't even know they'd made one until I started looking for a Samyang one. A fellow member (and a long time friend IRL) sent me a link to Ffordes who had one at less than the Samyang would cost me and the Tamron is AF, auto diaphragm and seems to distort less than the Samyang apparently does. Should be able to flog it on for close to what I paid for it after the trip (Iceland in March) since I probably won't need the speed advantage it will give me over my current UWA (Sigma 12-24). Might keep it though.

I wasn't aware of the Tamron lens you mentioned either! I just missed a Samyang 14mm for £250 in Amazons pre Christmas bonanza. My thinking had been to buy the Samyang, use it & then move it on afterwards. 20mm is as wide as I wanted to go for regular use which is why I decided to go for the new Nikon as one to keep as part of my small but growing set of fast primes. If you don't mind me asking, was your Tamron used or new? Ffordes seem to have new Tamron lenses in stock for £399 vs the Samyang at £319 elsewhere. If my 20mm does not show up soon I may need a plan B.

You've done well to find a 20 1.8 Brian, no where seems to have them in stock. Would be interested to know how it shapes up.

I am not so sure I have yet :( I ordered it from Amazon about 3 weeks ago & I still don't have a delivery date. I can still give them a couple of weeks more before I need a plan B.

I wasn't aware of the Tamron 14mm either and the AF is mega appealing but I know how amazing the Samyang is and for how often and what I'd use the 14mm for I don't think I can justify the extra as the Samyang is £265 at Onestop Digital

Mine came from Ffordes's sale and clearance section. It wasn't boxed and had no paperwork but showed no sign of use at all. IIRC it was £279 + P&P and for me the added attractions of AF and aperture are worth the extra over the Samyang. Reading a few reviews of the Samyang, I got the impression that there are some weird distortions throughout the images it gives - the Tamron does give slight pincushion distortion but it's very slight. Wide open there's slight vignetting in the corners which is unnoticeable at f/5.6.

Not for sale yet - might be after we get back from Iceland in mid March.

At Stansted Airport now and I've checked Dixons Tax Free. They had 2 D750s in stock and both SN were affected. They were not even aware of the issue. Bless. Price was £1649 but, if you bought a lens priced at more than £300 with it, they knocked £200 off the combined price.

They also had an "old" D800 in stock at £1299.
