Returning to the fold.

Have to say, as a long-time mod on here....

SO many names. SO many unrepeatable back stories as to disappearances... :D

Taking the staff hat off for a moment - one thing that these names have triggered with me is that to be honest, this place was a lot more fun when we argued about photography as opposed to just about politics and mythology in the hot topics section.

Pookeyhead. :exit:
now, you may be jesting - but honestly, of all the people we've had on here that have disappeared, I think I do Genuinely miss him as much as anyone. A well needed alternative viewpoint to the sometimes over technique focussed approach, and while I may have occasionally had to reprimand him for the way he expressed himself, I seldom if ever actually disagreed with what he was saying. I think that this place was his "venting place" where he could actually just let rip, as opposed to having to be professional at work while working with the students.

There are quite a few members whose delivery I ignore because the message is useful. I'd say it was probably Pookyhead that initially taught me that. Everyone has a right to be offended, but it doesn't make the words hold less value.

Edit to add: There was a guy who posted quite regularly favouring artistic over technical elements to an image and ended up leaving. His posts are still around as "Deleted member" with a load of numbers. Wish I could remember his name...

I was being serious, for the reasons you give and others.

But I know a lot of people didn't like his contributions so I could also wind them up by suggesting him. ;)

I wasn't aware that a lot of the other names put forward were no longer posting as they have been on my ignore list for a long time! :ROFLMAO:

Still here, much quieter, suffered a massive stroke in 2021, very uncontroversial now from my wheelchair (y)

See here: https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/t...-a-stroke-and-how-well-they-recovered.763499/

Life changing events give you a different perspective on everything.

I had some of my cameras stolen (Rolleiflex 3.5f & Nikon D4) whilst I was recovering; can only assume it was my Carers who regularly went upstairs whilst I couldn't :(
Sorry to hear that Fraser, about your stroke and your camera gear....

It's amazing how many "characters" have gone. You don't realise until you see their names again......

There seem to be people in the non photography threads who I never see in any photography / picture related threads I visit. That may be because I don't go into the photography threads they do post in.

Pookeyhead was someone I couldn't get on with - it felt like he had so much knowledge and understanding of art, yet took delight in slamming the door shut in the faces of those who would have liked to learn. I know some aspired to receive his blessing, and he did sometimes bring a special insight to the forum, but the price was a very high level of frustration and anger that caused division and bad feeling.

TBH I think he saw the forum as a plaything, with no concern for the well-being of others. I breathed a big sigh of relief when he stopped posting.

He posted like the love child of Basil Faulty and Ken Rockwell. Plus if anyone disagreed with him he'd just hit ignore and carry on as if nothing had happened.

I found Pookeyhead a welcome presence. He had a certain reality, which whilst not all-encompassing could readily challenge the dippers-in, culturally speaking. Was he David? Had a Ford Mustang & worked in Blackpool? A seaside resort with lots of people on benefits.

Kodiak was a Canadian living in France & pursuing a photography business. He was solid enough photography-wise, but crossed the line by touting his business in an underhand way on these forums, & thus was rightly banned.

That’s right, he was a photography lecturer at Blackpool college. I think his real name was David Gregory.

Pretty sure he was the ex Para Reg lad I was thinking about earlier, didn't he end up as a gamekeeper?

Think his call sign was Les321?

GC
I think his 'handle' was Lez525  and think I came across him on another forum..................but if it was the one I am thinking of he has vanished from that forum now ???

He thought that amateur photographers were not photographers. His website seemed to disappear some years ago, but haven't looked recently.
