Simon's 52 in 2023

Irregular - glad to hear it's better
Rubbish - lots of interesting snickets... the mono has more atmosphere for me.

Thasks Helen. The mono conversion was more of an afterthought, but agree that it probably works the best of the bunch,

Agree with the mono choice though do like the bright red kebab sign vs the bins. Good to see your fit enough to get around the pubs/bars :)

Cheers Keith. I like the splash of red too. Nearly chose that one.
Got to stay hydrated…. ;)

Good to see you are better Simon. Chosen shot works really well for the theme.
Thank you Pete (on both counts).
Yes, back to normal now - managed a good hike in the Lakes yesterday with no ill effects. A shame the theme wasn’t “stunning scenery”!

Week 24 - Sound

The sound of silence.
My wife taking a well earned breather on a hike around Rydal Water and Grasmere (this is Grasmere) in the Lakes last week. Although busy in places this was a cool(wish) and peaceful spot with nothing but the occasional birdsong.

Very tranquil and even the water looks quiet.

Loughrigg terrace sits directly above that little "beach".
Fantastic view.
Easy to walk to and you can park the car near the top if your near is still sore.

Yes, I’ll do Loughrigg next time we go. Managed Helm Crag with the help of anti inflammatories and evening ice pack, so all good on that front thanks (y)

Week 25 - Snapper's Choice & Tech (Composite)

Well the Snapper's Choice bit was easy, but I've been struggling with composite ever since @Cobra announced it. My PP skills are still rudimentary, and I just couldn't find any inspiration or ideas to attempt this. So my eventual submission for this, in this week's round is a quick and dirty bodge job - it was either that or give up!
Hopefully though, it ticks the bill. It's not hard to spot

All the shots, including the base one for the composite in the first photo are taken from a short walk around the Kingswood junction at Lapworth, near Solihull of the Startford/Grand Union canals.

Certainly fits the bill / beak Simon :)

Nice job Simon and another Tech box ticked. I thought just for the fun of it, an eagle or similar would be even better! :D
Cheers Stan - that would have been ideal! I do have an eagle in an AI replacement option in Luminar, but it’s not mine so thought that might be cheating.

I was trying to cut out one of my heron shots and put him standing on the signpost, but it was proving to tricky (for me at any rate). Cut my losses and went for something that was easier to isolate! I’m afraid I haven’t got the patience to work down at pixel level

Sound is lovely, can just imagine the relief of dipping hot, sweaty feet (no offense) into the cool clear water and enjoying the view, and the sound of silence. Idyllic.

Your composite on the canal junction is perfectly believeble, if you hadn;t said, we wouldn;t have known. Nice work.

Thank you Graham! Very much appreciate your kind comments!

Some great images Simon, your "sound" shot looks very tranquil and I love the names for the hills in the background. I like your composite shot (as well as all the rest of the images in the set)

Thank you as always for your comments Bill. Much appreciated.
The hill names in the Lake District are fabulous, and I often wonder how they got their names.
some other examples are
Cat Bells
The Old Man of Coniston
Pike O'Stickle
Dollywagon Pike
St. Sunday Crag
Wetherlam
to name but a few…..

"Pike O'Stickle"..."Dollywagon"...made me laugh out loud... :D

Fits the theme and the view point makes it interesting, like you I have been putting composite off but yours has has worked ok

Love your sound picture, boots off paddle in the lake and enjoy the moment, great capture.
Snappers Choice does what we all appear to of struggled with rather well, nice compo.

Week 26: Watching

We visited the National Botanical Gardens of Wales near Carmarthen today for the first time in 14 years even though it's only an hour down the road. Lovely place to visit, but particularly enjoyed the British Birds of Prey Centre where they run 3 flying shows a day. We managed to catch one. I "only" had my Sony RX100vi with me, but snapped a few of the raptors intently "watching" the falconer for the food he was offering them
