Round-Up of the TP 52 for 2024

Firstly well done to everyone who entered the 52 this year and a huge thanks to Lindsay for stepping in following the sad loss of our Cobra Chris.

We had 55 entrants sign up to the 52 in 2024.
The number of starters (who posted in week 1) was actually 44.
21 made it through to the end, which is a 47.73% completion rate. This is actually the 3rd best percentage finishing since Dark Knight started the scrolls back in 2012 !

3 of the new entrants in 2024 made it through to the end, and it's good to see them signing up again for 2025 :)

Post 1 photo a week. How hard can it be? ;)

As this is a forum based on the visual arts, here are the numbers is graphical format:

Thanks Tim for monitoring progress and maintaining the scrolls. The stats are really interesting, and identify the challenge for us too - to try to keep more people going through the year and to try to increase the number of starters who finish. But most of all, thanks to all the participants and for those finishing, very well done.:clap:

It's definitely more of a challenge than it first appears, especially when life happens.

Avoiding getting behind helps a lot. Thanks to who ran and run these challenges. Nice stats to look back on. I wonder if there are certain subjects that people find trickier than others based on weekly completion rates.

I don't know what Cobra Chris' method was for selecting each weekly theme - I got the impression he selected ideas that demanded more creative interpretations, whereas my own approach is maybe a bit simpler, more subject or concept related, and I don't know which works better. I guess it'll depend on the individual as to how much creative licence they want to have and to use. This, though, is why we suggest that shoehorns or crowbars can be used to try to get an image to somehow relate to the theme. At the end of the day it's less about what's in the image than about having pushed the photographer to think about finding and taking a photograph. Because most of the time, a lot of us want to do some photography but lack inspiration or opportunity or both. Having a theme suggested and a target date, pushes and focuses us, to at least have some parameters and not just an empty frame.

Thanks Lindsay, that’s exactly the reason for being interested in photography, the challenge and the creativity. Without the “52” the camera would probably be very dusty.
Also the interaction and feedback, both giving and receiving, is really important. It gives motivation and inspiration.

I agree, without the 52, my camera would also be very dusty. Although I am guilty of having to do some catching up, this is likely due to my own laziness and lack of creativity for those themes I find tricky. Thank you to Lindsay, Tim, and anyone else who works to keep this going!

Glad to see the stats have been posted, I find it very fascinating how some years are more engaging than others.
