Zine Exchange 8: July - October 2024

Another zine received in this exchange from @Paul Morgan & another to enjoy (as I'm currently doing over a coffee). No spoilers, but just to say thank you very much

Thank you @Paul Morgan for your excellent zine, together with the kind insert. I liked the perspective of a chronology of a particular place as I felt it created a strong sense of narrative.

Received @yamahatdm900 zine this morning. Really great zine and subject - the fair seems ripe for capturing innuendo and humour in an image. Great insert too. Thank you.

I've received a number of zines in the past few days - thank you everyone. I'm looking forward to sitting and having a good look through them all.

Mine have gone out today, so hopefully should be dropping through letterboxes soon.

Two wonderful zines came through my letterbox today: one from @Cloudforest, and another from @yamahatdm900. Thank you for fascinating insights into Church and Fair.

Right. I think I have everyone's zines now apart from David. Mine have all come back reprinted by Mixam and they're right this time.

Once I've got David's I'll send the parcel out to Ashish and once I receive his, I'll send out to the UK participants. How's it going @ashishtamhane ?

Mine are scheduled to be with me tomorrow, I'll get them out promptly (assuming they are ok this time!)

I have sent out the photographs for printing. Should get them in this week and then will post them. Its going a bit slow than I originally expected though.

Received the @Cloudforest The Church a couple of days ago (apols for the tardy notification). Lovely piece of work - the centre spread especially - humour in a graveyard, who knew.

Be interested to know if this is also a fundraiser for the church itself. I am not a man of religion but this looks a really interesting set of buildings.

Hi Paul @Paul Morgan,
Thanks for the positive comments on the zine. I originally had a totally different plan in mind but couldn't get my head around it (maybe next time :)).

I work for a charity that cares for historically important churches that are no longer used for regular worship and though this zine wasn't intended as a fundraiser, it's given me a few pointers for a guidebook that I'm trying to write. I have found out though, that I'm not that brilliant at writing, so it's slow progress.

I have the privilege of looking after 24 churches in 4 counties - the one in the zine is relatively close to home and has an interesting history to it. The pics were taken over a number of visits a couple of them are phone pics. I thought the printed zine had a bit of a green tint, compared with my "warmer" originals but I didn't feel it was bad enough to ask for a reprint.

'In the Pits' received today from @Mr Perceptive - thanks David. Excellent coverage of life in the paddock and pit lane. We had some understanding of this when our son did his work experience with Carlin Motorsport (now Rodin). It was an interesting time, but he came to the conclusion that it wasn't for him & thankfully he is very settled in another engineering discipline. The autobiography of Michael Schumacher's race engineer is a good read

As we're on the subject of zines...through my work yesterday I was asked to judge a photographic competition at Manchester Metropolitan University focussing on the subject of electronic waste (organised by the environmental charity Hubbub with Virgin Media O2 - was one of six judges and felt honoured to be involved). The were entries from 15 teams from the photographic and arts departments and it was a great day. There were six judging categories but the big prize was having a piece exhibited in new Virgin Media O2 offices.

One particular entry produced a zine of their images which was a lovely piece and bound using very thin waste cable hand threaded. They made enough for each judge which made it an instant winner obviously! Sadly I had to leave in the care of reception at my office as after the event it was our works Christmas drink and I didn't want to risk it. The zine won't enter my collection properly until the new year.

Thank you @Mr Perceptive for In The Pits, which arrived with me today. An impressive zine and certainly an insight into a world of calm and frantic.

Package sent to Ashish. No idea how long it will take, but it's on its way!

Just received the whole set of Zines today here in India! Some very inspiring photography. The hand-written postcards are just beautiful!
That was around a week to get to you then - not bad. Glad it got there!

My parcel has arrived from India!

I'll be getting them out in the post tomorrow.

I hope they all have arrived in one piece!
They did. I was a little dubious when the packet arrived in a massive plastic bag with about 3 different customs papers on it, as well as what looked like rat damage to one corner of your envelope. I suspect it was probably customs opening a corner to see what was inside.

I'm glad we weren't doing a glass vase exchange :)

Thank you @ashishtamhane and @Harlequin565 for your excellent zines, which arrived with me this morning . 'On Travel' made my chuckle as I noticed an image close to home in East Sussex, and I was happy to see the use of various analogue film emulsions in 'Strangers On A Train'. Yes, it's been another wonderful zine exchange where I have encountered many different approaches, subjects and styles. A very big thank you to Ian for organising this 8th zine exchange. I wish everyone many happy picture making days ahead.

arrived with me this morning
It amuses me that you're the 2/3rd farthest away from me and received it quickest. And that includes Ashish who is in India.

Hey folks. Just an fyi that I won't be running any more zine exchanges. If anyone wants to take over the mantle, that's fine by me. If you want a copy of the BB code for the OP with all the links embedded so it's a copy paste for the next one, just PM me and I'll email it over. Or write your own :) Don't mind either way.

@sirch started the 1st one in Jan 2020 so by my count, if you've been in since the beginning, that's a lot of zines over the 5 years (yep - I started trying to count it & quickly gave up!). I've personally found it very enriching to my photography as well as just generally, seeing how others have approached it.

I think I'll be moving on to books. I say that though :)

Thanks for all your support with all the exchanges and for taking part. Without you all, it wouldn't have worked!

I have learnt much during my three zine exchanges here and I want to thank you Ian for your superb organising and steering skills. Change, experience and development are part of so many areas which is all part of an ongoing process. I wish you well with your move into books. That's another exciting world of communication! Thanks to you and @sirch for running the exchanges. Even though I haven't participated in all of them I've followed the progress of the others with interest. I hope someone else will take up the reigns to keep the interest going.

Hi everyone, this is to let you know that I have volunteered, with Ian's blessing, to take over the reins of the Zine Exchange. I will be posting up full details of the 9th Zine Exchange (January - June 2025) in the next day or so.

Would you like a notice posting to advertise the next zine exchange? If so, start the thread and then use the Report option to remind me
