All things related to Apple phones & tablets

It is under Settings > AirPlay and Continuity (of course... :headbang: )

iOS and iPadOS 18.1 plus MacOS Sequoia 15.1 are now available in the UK.

The iOS and iPad updates bring the first Apple Intelligence features. At least, that's what was announced, and some of the YouTube commentators have put up videos showing how to use them, but my iPhone 16 Pro Max doesn't seem to have them yet. Off to investigate...

OK, you have to go to Settings, General, Language and Region, and change to US English. Then go to Settings, Apple Intelligence and Siri and enable US English there. Then click on the link to join the waitlist. I don't know how long this will take, but I'll try and remember to report back when it's available for me.

I had to wait about two hours but now have Apple Intelligence on my iPhone. After you get the message, you'll have to set up a few things like summarised notifications and Siri. Also, in the Photos app, when you first want to use the cleanup tool, you go into Edit, then tap the icon and it will take a little while to download the cleanup code before you can use it.

On my iPad Air, I see that Apple Intelligence is "Preparing". And I upgraded my iPad Mini to iOS Dev Beta 18.2, and that now also has Apple Intelligence. So you shouldn't have to wait long, hopefully.

One minor drawback (there are many) to setting your Region to US in iOS18.1 is that you might see a request in the Wallet app to add Apple Cash, to "send and receive money in Messages or Wallet". This facility is only allowed in the US.

And as far as I can tell, it's nothing to do with cash.

Seurity updates are available for MacOS Sonoma 14.7.1 and Ventura 13.7.1.

Also for iOS 17.7.1 and iPadOS 17.7.1.

You might know by now that Apple has acquired Pixelmator. My concern was whether that means that they'd sherlock it, i.e. terminate it.

And now someone has had the bright idea that it could lead to Aperture coming back. Now, wouldn't that be good?!

It would appear we read from the same sources. I used to really love Aperture and sure I’d still be using it if I could. Photos is not the same. No idea about Pixelmator but hopefully it brings something new to the party.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a keyboard for a 12.9” pro please ? I have been given one for work but don’t really want to pay the price of a Magic Keyboard if possible…

I've been pleased with my Keycron K7, but more for tactility rather than price saving over a Magic Keyboard. The one thing that is misses over the Apple keyboard is the Touch ID sensor though.

Sorry, should’ve been clearer - I meant a keyboard case, not just the keyboard

Apologies

If any of you live in London and own one of the new 11" iPad Pro M4s, you might like to know that CeX in Rathbone Place, Fitzrovia has a couple of Apple folio keyboards for them at £230, a fair bit cheaper than Apple's price. They're marked as B stock, usually meaning light cosmetic damage. I didn't have time to look closer, but hopefully this might help someone.

I normally buy apple cases. Expensive but good quality, unlike £12 ones on Amazon that 6w old fade or look awful.

Any good 3rd party cases I should look at, especially ones with the magnetic wallet.
I pretty much always get Mous cases - but there aren't cheap

According to MacRumors, there's a new security update release of MacOS Sequoia. It's not available on my Mac yet, so I'm guessing that it's being rolled out in stages.

And, apparently, iOS as well. I can't tell if this is available here as I'm running the developer's beta.

Hi hiys

I have a new iPhone 16 which I purchased shortly after release in September. Since I’ve had this, the phone has randomly turned itself off and restarted on four separate occasions in around six weeks. My previous iPhone 12 Pro Max NEVER did this. I’m worried that the phone may be faulty. The phone has never been damaged or dropped or anything like that. I’ve no idea what the issue is. Has anyone else had the same problem or know anything about this?

Thanks.

The latest public versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and the rest are coming today. They're usually available in the UK at about 6pm, but I just checked and iOS is available on my phone now

Nothing for me yet. Edit. Now all updated. Thanks Garry.

"Any Recommendations"

I'm after getting a Bluetooth mouse for use with my MacBook Pro & iPad pro units. I've considered the Apple one but just wondered if there is a suitable alternative unit as the Apple one does seem to have an extortionate price compared to others that I've seen. Also I wondered if an alternative unit would stop my Apple pencil from working with my iPad at the same time.

I use a Logitech Ergo M575 trackball with my MacBook Air and iPad and find it works well, though I can’t comment on simultaneous use with Apple Pencil.

I'm an MX Master fan - I also have an Apple Magic Mouse, but it isn't great. Personally I found the MX Anywhere to be too small for me, but the Logitech metal scroll wheels are great.

Many thanks for that Lewis, very much appreciated.

I had the MX Masster, but it was to big for me. For my use, the metl scroll wheel is too god. I wish there was a way to disable it.
