DPOTY 2024 - Chat thread

Lewis's shoehorn stopped me from adding my intended picture, and I eventually went to Banbury tonight to get my picture. The intended shot of the Kraft factory wasn't possible because the trees in front had grown up too much, but I did manage to include some of it behind my shoehorned picture.

I thought it was Banbury when I saw it. Mine was taken just up the canal near Southam.

I'm in Coventry now, but used to live in Rugby and Northamptonshire before that, so know the area.

Well done @RyanB for your cracking image that won the June challenge.
Some strong competition though, so well done all who submitted.
League table coming shortly...

League table after June's votiong:

@TimHughes in the lead, but @Gav. catching up fast, with @RyanB the newcomer sweeping all aside in his very successful charge up the outside! It's not a competition, but we know how we feel, and it pushes us to up our game a bit sometimes I think. It only takes a couple of good months' entries to make a big difference.

Well done @RyanB for your cracking image that won the June challenge.
Congratulations @RyanB!
Many thanks guys and thanks everyone for all the votes! :)

Some cracking shots again this month and after attempting something similar( and failing) can really appreciate the difficulty of @Gav. 's Mill shot so well done on that, it is excellent.(y)

Hopefully I can come up with something for Street which is my least favourite(to shoot, I like to look at it) genre of photography.

Great entries for July, and it looks like Tim Hughes is building a firm lead but the voting has only just started..
The August entries thread is up, and is a wide open subject so should get plenty of entries I'd have thought

Congratulations @TimHughes for a great winner, although again there was some good competition. Here's the updated table:

I see I have resumed my traditional position at the lowest scoring member who has entered each month  :$

I think you deserve great credit for sticking with it Lewis, but you did come 2nd equal one month. And you are one of only 9 who have entered every month so far. So a bit of a hero really.

Well done to @Ruthie5611 for getting a decent score on your first entry.

We clearly have some very skilled and talented photographers in our midst, but hopefully we can learn a bit from their efforts. On the other hand, I'm a firm believer in it being the taking part that matters, not the winning. Just as well really, I struggle to take part at present and am pretty rubbish when I do, but I keep saying, it's the process I enjoy, the results are a bonus occasionally. I am hanging on by a thread to that mantra!

Can an otherwise qualifying image be entered if it has appeared in another (non-comp) thread such as "shots you took today" or "show us your B&W images"?

Voting is open on August's theme, and entries are open for September's theme of "Old" - plenty of scope there, from self-portraits to still life

Well done @RyanB with a great winner in August, with close runners-up in @Craikeybaby and @TimHughes .

The leaderboard is still "owned" by Tim thanks to consistency and some winners, but it's all about entering and sticking at it as the table shows:

September entry for "Old" is my Grandad's British War and Allied Victory service medals recently passed down to me. I found them inside the labelled tobacco tin with the Stormont badge from 1945 which was where he worked. Be thankful I spared you from the nail file that was also tucked away in there :)

@Nostromo I adore your 'old' photo, is it one that you've edited? Would love to be able to edit a photo to look like yours.

Thank you
This is the original shot. The end result is achieved by adding texture layers in photoshop.
I explained how to do this in a post called Japanese Anemone in the creative forum section.
I hope this helps.

If it's the image renee, it's over size at 833kb, uploads need to be 500kb or lower.

You could copy and paste the Gallery BB code from the media page, seems to work.

@Mrjol images uploaded directly into a thread must be less than 500kb and longest side max 1024 px. Usually easiest to upload full size to a hosting site like Flickr and then use the bbcode they offer for max 1024px size pasted into the destination thread here.

I've had a bunch of ideas for this months theme, but when I got home from shopping this morning, our neighbours cat had left us the bits it didn't want from the mouse it had caught. I'd already bought fake blood in Tesco, so it was a small step to set the shot up.

I was 'encouraged' to do this too because it's really hard to take pictures of your own stomach, upon which I had planned to set my horror scene for this months theme.

My stomach is the "ghost" of too many past pies - and not especially photogenic as a result, but not sufficiently for the "horror" appellation.

Well done @Nostromo for a great winner in Septembers challenge.
