E-Cigarettes

Having read through this thread a couple of times now, I must say that,
on balance,
I'm tempted to try one of these e-cig thingies.

As a 20-ish a day guy, for more years than I want to admit,
and having tried other nicotine replacements,
and having found that I was spending more on the gum, than cigarettes,
I don't see the harm in trying.
/ Off to do more web searching (y)

The UK Vapers forum has lots of discount codes, friendly vendors and honest reviews. There's a huge range of kit and juices available, so there should be something to suit all tastes.

They're all terrible geeks, but....(looks around)...y'know... :)

I've popped in and out of this thread a few times. Obviously thinking of giving it a try but still too confused about the range of products available. At the moment i smoke roll ups and can easily get through 40+ a day if I'm outside enough.
What would be the general recommendation to get me started? And what sort of quantities of liquid would I be looking at getting through?

As a "serious" smoker. Go for 24mg Nic juice to start with. Expect to use in the region of 3-4ml a day (or perhaps a little more).

"RY4" seems to be one of the most popular tobacco flavours. Can't stand it, myself, but that's the one all the home mixers try to copy.

You can't go wrong with an eGo battery and an EVOD, but there's a lot to be said for variable voltage batteries (vision spinner, ego twist etc) as they let you tailor the amount of vapour you get.

EDIT. Just to be clear, I have NO financial interest in ecigs. Just a desire to help others get off the fags. :)

So all the juices are all compatible with all makes of Cig then?

Thanks for the info.
Like Cobra I'm looking at the same starter set he linked to.

Seems OK??

I must admit that its a mine field out there
but thanks for the links and recommendations,
This one looks good ?

I just ran that through the shopping basket, and the discount code that
Dave posted works ;)
1st class royal mail is free, there is a cost for other posting options though

 :D

Yep. There are some issues with some types of plastics in tanks cracking if used with very acidic flavours, but generally, its all compatible.

The price seems good but they're over-stating battery life a bit. 650mah is not big these days. I barely get 2 days out of a 2000mah battery.

Not familiar with the tank/atomiser there, but check the availability of spare coils/wicks. If you have to replace the whole unit, rather than just the small atomiser coil, they could be an expensive option over time. Kanger EVODs cost about £6 and the coils (which last about a week) cost about £2-3, or pennies if you make them yourself.

I'm using the ego Ce5 I think it's called.... 5 weeks now and it's the best thing ever!

I get quite excited trying new flavours too lol
Cheesecake, Irish cream and lemon blueberry cotton candy so far are my favs!

I ordered the ego LED from go4smoke (which has a 5 LED battery indicator), and the Kanger MT3 cart. Both have been given a (y) by my wife.

With regard to the e liquids, she liked the vanilla from vape escape, so I've now ordered the vanilla custard and the caramel liquids from G4S, they were around £1 cheaper each, so hopefully she'll like them as well.

The vanilla really smells nice in use, almost like the smell of baking or toffee making.

I'll have to look on the site at the kanger MT3 thingy! And try the flavours. I bought a French vanilla but there doesn't seem to be much flavour yet I've heard others say its nice.. To be honest I am addicted to trying lots lol

You must be a heavy user though, while I'm not the user I'm still in charge of the recharging of batteries and filling of the eliquid ;).

I've got 2 ego batteries, the one linked to above which is a 650mah and the other is the 900mah. The 650mah has been going since Thursday and still shows 5/5 battery, and the 900 was last charged on Monday and is still showing more than 50% (it's not as accurate as it only has one light which changes colour as it discharges, light blue = 50-100%).

Those batteries look like the first one I bought, and works very well, the on/off button has a light behind it which shows battery, the tube looks similar to the Kanger cartomiser I've just bought and she has said it is the most comfortable to use of all the ones we've tried.

The dust cap looks like a clever idea.

Working at £10 + £10 for the batteries, and £4 for the charger the whole package seems pretty well priced.

Fair point. I used to smoke 20 a day, so I'm a heavy ish user.

Incidentally, seeing as this is a photography forum, here are some snaps from the Brussels trip (before the beer took its toll).

For those who are just looking to try, good luck!

I had been smoking for 25+ years at 20-30 a day and tried everything to quit, the day after I switched to an electronic cigarette I downloaded an app on the iphone called MLC (My Last Cigarette) to track how long I had quit for, I haven't checked it in a while as no longer worry about wanting a cig.

After three months I treated myself to a Totally Wicked Odyssey as I personally think that although it is expensive it is the best looking ecig out there (OK Im a tart) and can't believe how much better I feel.

One thing to not which I feel is quite important is that when starting out it can take a while to get the right eliquid and hardware combo to suit yourself but once you find it I can gaurentee you wont want a cig again :)

To ban or inhibit these devices would be pure lunacy and really only beneficial to pharma/tobacco companies as they are the only people who will really benefit not including the government when you look at how much tax they will lose.

Had a read through this thread last night. Seems like they are becoming alot more popular, I see quite a few peoole using them in town.

So far ive only tryed disposable versions. But have contemplated buying a proper one. Ive been trying to quit for the past two years. Ive used patches 3 times but each tine after a while end uo back on the cigs.

I didnt find the disposable one that bad maby just not enough vapor in the mouth, so found myself double drawing each time I took a draw. Im only on about 5-6 cigs a day just jow but do reaky want to quite. Due to kids and the expense. But I do enjoy smoking at the same time.

I need to look for something as cheap as possible to get started and figure out what strengh aswell.

Pmac if changing from real smokes to ecigs I would always recommend starting on the stronger 24mg strength fluid and working down.

Not the cheapest but I found the quality and support at Vapouriz second to none and the tank is very well put together. Ego batteries are a dime a dozen but after trying a couple of cheaper ones I found the quality was not always that great. When quoting I placed quality at the top of my list as did not want to find myself without an ecig in the early days :)

I think that's pretty much settled it :)

I see the replacement atomisers are out of stock. You'll need them after a week or so. You might want to check availability from other dealers, if you haven't already pulled the trigger.

Ah thanks for the heads up
Goes off for a further browse (y)

John,
It seems they are quite easily obtainable.
Even on the dreaded "Bay" trigger pulled :)

No worries then.

I wasn't quite so lucky with my first purchase. Few dealers stock the spares, so I've got a £40 VV that is now gathering dust. :(

They're a lot bigger than I imagined - looks like a one-handed penny whistle player's convention. :D

The big ones are "full frame" devices. :D

At a HoL briefing last Thursday, one Lord said he was concerned that ecigs look like real cigarettes. Dave Dorn (of vapourtrails TV) held up a hig-end VV/VW mod, with a huge tank atty. said Lord exclaimed "Dear God! That's not a cigarette, its a sonic screwdriver!".

Do they make them in any other shapes? A big tobacco pipe shaped one would be fun, especially if you could smoke it like a proper pipe.

On the liquids I ordered on Friday I have done the same as you and ordered 50/50.

I don't know what the others already in use are .

No i don't know what the ratio is on the ones i've been using for the past 5 weeks are either, this was the first one i came across with a choice.. I'm assuming mostly pg as i do get a good throat hit with them and i do need that

Same here, I only came across it with the premium liquids.

This is their explanation of the variances

Out of curiosity what do you guys use... pg or vg juice? I've just ordered some liquids from a new site i was recommended to try

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Creative-Vapes/412354475520461?fref=ts

and you get the option on % I've gone 50/50 because i'm not quite sure on the difference yet...

T x

I'm using 50/50. I found 70/30 PG/VG gave me a very dry mouth and tongue.

If you like simple flavours, it's really easy to mix your own. I'm using mainly cola during the day, so its just one flavour concentrate. Piece of cake to mix with a calculator to work out the amounts and its costing me about £1.25 for 10ml.

Price wise that's great and at some point I wouldn't mind trying to mix my own, it sounds scary at the moment but I'm sure once doing it, it's not so bad

*SNIP*I've got a £40 VV that is now gathering dust. :(

At 20 a day, that's still less than a week's ciggy money!

Congrats to all who are managing to give up ciggies.

Don't get me started on the money I've spent on vaping gear. BUT I'm still in profit compared to fags.

The only scary bit is handling the nicotine base. Rubber gloves and something to catch any spills are a must.

The rest is a doddle. I use a mixing calculator app on the iPhone, to get the nic strength right, and recipes from the many forums. Just starting to try more complex 2-3 flavour juices, now. Working on a hazelnut caramel ATM.

Can't wait to try mine out and finally try and get off the smokes after 30yrs, i'm off on holiday next week so any recommendations on what i could be using quantity wise as a minimum

I usually take 20ml for a week away (plus a cart full for the journey). That said, I'm on a fairly moderate (16mg) strength and like to make BIG clouds. :)<3

Don't forget a travel adapter for your battery charger (if needed).

Well it arrived and i'm up and running, quite surprised by the way it works and the taste seems good.
I've been spending around £80+ a month on tobacco so i'm going to try my best to stick with it and hopefully feel a bit healthier and richer.

My order is marked as being processed,
although I had a "missed to be signed for parcel" card through the door when I got home,
I wonder if that's it ? could be ;)

Any one getting any side effects using these?I can only link them to these.

I bought another cheap garage one the other day instead of a pack of smokes.(cant afford the outlay for a proper one right now) its a 10 motives rechargeable.

Used it for half a day the other day and found I was getting light headed/nauseous and felt very tired, stopped using it and went back to the smokes for two days and felt fine.

Been using it again today and have been getting the same nauseous and tiredness again.

Can you over use these? I find that the vapour doesn't seem enough so find myself taking big or double draws to get the feeling of smoke(the exhale doesnt seem to have any smoke/vapour)
Im only smoking about 5/6 cigs a day but find myself using this more it seems anyway.

I did read that they make you very dehydrated as well.
