F&C meet up 18th May 2024

@sirch had masterfully demonstrated how to use it
I seem to recall that there's a thread about 101 ways to ruin a film, I think I get bonus points for demonstrating all of them in 4 shots on one film

I'm sure this was a good shot @ChrisR

I passed on that opportunity!

We're home, pizza's in the oven, that was an excellent day. I think I exposed just over two rolls: half an FP4, a whole roll of UN54, and half a roll of Ferrania Orto (all those in the Pentax MX), plus a few of the dud Tri-X in my GS645S (which I wasn't getting on with, so went back in the boot after lunch!).

Ah - Last of the summer wine!

Yup, the Compo's askew, the view's Cleggy and the results might be Foggy...

Glad you had a good day, looking forward to seeing the results.

Great to meet you @ChrisR. Pleased to hear you got home safely.

I much admired your dedication in waiting for the sun out Cave Dale shots. And your gazelle like darting over the hills for the said shot. You put @FishyFish and I to shame on many occasions overtaking us on the hills!

And me! I was straggling because I was knackered and Chris still managed to spring ahead. Hats off sir to your energy and determination to get the shot!

Edit to add: Maybe people called Chris just naturally have more energy than the rest of us mortals?

Hmmn... I have a bit of a backlog...

However some progress has been made

The Castleton 120 b&w is in there and maybe a couple of Minox shots too. The colour backlog inc Castleton 120 is off for commercial dev'ing.

I'm hoping to get the tanked films dev'd Tuesday evening. I'm at work today and after that off to collect a family member from Manchester Airport and probably not back til 11pm.

However the Castleton colour 35mm and the 2 b&w Minox remain in camera unfinished so they won't be seen for a good while yet.

As well as being a thoroughly enjoyable day out the trip has given me the encouragement to start on my dev'ing.

You guys...

If this had been a digital day out we'd all be uploaded and done by now. Instead this will likely be another thread that won't die :)

I'm having a... complicated day! My wife was to be out this afternoon, so I contemplated devving the two films that are finished (FP4 and UN54), but it's a nice afternoon, so I decided to try and finish a couple of the other part taken films. I went out with the GS645S, and was getting on quite nicely, RF spot easy to see and focus, all the controls getting easier to find, and then... I noticed the lens cap was still on (this DESPITE the sticker saying LENS CAP on the back of the camera)! Well, I was near the church so went in and sat down, wound the film on to the end, and reversed the spools, intending to wind it right through and then reload again, bypassing those first 7 or 8 frames. However, something's not quite right, and it's extremely hard to wind on, so in the end I brought it home. I'm not sure whether to open it in the dark bag, or wait until bedtime and take it under the stairs.

Happily there was still plenty of time, so I took the MX loaded with Ferrania ORTO into the Castle (residents get free entry), and finished up the film there.

Before going out this afternoon, I sent an email to Film Ferrania asking about devving ORTO in HC-110 B or E (their website only has times for stand dev in G, 1+119, and I can't do stand dev in the Rondinax). No reply yet. I also sent an email to the lab I use, The Darkroom UK in Cheltenham. I thought they were still using ID11, after Kodak chems became hard to find. I asked them about ORTO. Their reply was "We process our B&W film in Kodak Xtol. We have processed a couple of these film types and always seen good results."

Now I really like Tri-X and several other films in XTOL (it's one of the reasons I started using them a few years ago, most other labs had moved away from XTOL), but I'm wondering if it's too contrasty for ORTO. Any thoughts?

Looks like you all had a good day out, I'm glad it went ok. Sometimes living in West Devon isn't a good thing. :(

But most of the time, it has its compensations!!! (OK, I'm more East Devon but still!)

then... I noticed the lens cap was still on
It appears that whilst people called Chris might have more energy than the rest of us, they are easily foxed by lens caps.

I'm at Sandbach M6 services. I could have brought a camera with me to finish off the Castleton films but why would I want a photographic reminder of this place... Even pretending it would have been some sort of documentary project holds no appeal!

Sorry to hear of your tribulations @ChrisR .

Thank you for letting me see what Nige looks like...

It's been an interesting process of elimination and deduction given that I knew what two of you looked like.

You haven't seen one of the other shots. If you had, you'd be asking for a swift return of your loaned lenses lest I crack them with my hideous visage!

I think that the phrase is "stress testing"... :)

Actually, most people on the forum look nothing like I imagined them.

Well, in the end I sent 4 films off yesterday to The Darkroom using their Freepost system, and I've had an email today saying the films are processed and will be posted. Unfortunately I won't be scanning them until at least late next week due to other complications. There was a roll of FP4, second half at Castleton, then a roll of UN54, then the ORTO (as noted, kept the yellow filter on, we'll see how daft that turned out to be), and the fat 120 roll of bad batch Tri-X, double-wrapped in alfoil!
