WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Gotta love them Lidl's mini stollen!!!

All done, the tree is looking great abd Andy the grinch is starting to feel a bit more cheerful. Mind you, that could be because I have just snaffled a couple of mini stollen bites :D
I love stollen. Did you get them in Lidl ? I looked when we were in the store here in the week and couldn't see any. They usually have them and on Boxing Day they're half price for a box of six.

I spotted a cooking vid on Youtube which is just a few minutes short of 12 hours long. I watched the first few minutes and decided to try a flat bread topped with parsley recipe which starts at about 9:15. I left out the garlic and added pepper. It's lovely :D I had mine with a peri peri and garlic mayo mix dip.

Yesterday actually. Travelling 68 miles in horrible weather to get to a car meet, getting together with friends I haven't seen in 2 or 3 years, eating good food, decent coffee, and talking all things "petrolhead". Then driving back again 5 hours later. I did get to see dawn over a misty Salisbury plain, which was wonderful.

ah stollen. I'd forgotten about that. Yum!

I'm on a mission to find a good flatbread recipe, thanks. 12 hours though  :$

Once you start watching you can't stop :D

It is lovely though but the liquid to flour ratio seemed way off but I suppose differences in flour will account for some of it. Whatever the reason I had to add a lot more flour than she stated. Also she didn't say what sort of flour so I assumed plain. I made three dough balls, made one into flat bread, loved it :D and have kept the rest of the dough for another day.

Very calming to watch (y) I've just written the whole thing down. I thought her dough looked a tad dry. I would have assumed bread flour, but if it's in the States it will probably be All Purpose which is somewhere between the two I think. I'll see what happens :)

WCMUT? An unexpected act of kindness from a neighbour. A few days ago my neighbour Alan who lives a few doors away down the hill called round
to deliver some chutney his wife had made, as ever with the elderly the conversation turned to aches and pains and I mentioned that my polymyalgia and
sciatica had been particularly bad this year and had prevented me from clearing the ground moss from our north facing front drive.

Jump to this morning and on hearing a scraping noise at the front of the house I saw Alan, who is only a few years younger than me, furiously scraping up the moss
with some long handled tool. When I expressed my surprise and extreme thanks he replied that he knew what it was to be poorly (he'd had prostate cancer) and he wanted to
do what he could to help.
I feel humbled by his actions and I'm truly grateful, the milk of human kindness indeed.

Plain flour still lead it to rise but I did think she put a lot of yeast in. She put one tbl spoon in so I followed her but I use a lot less than that when making a loaf.

The recipe I followed is now written out and is in my recipe folder :D but I think I might have to tweak the liquid to flower quantities.

Let me point you in the direction of the Chainbaker on YouTube. Charlie has some great recipes and all very clear and logical. Between him and Emma's Goodies I've started my baking career.

WCMUT was a delicious venison steak. Lovely and succulent.

There's a fairly big herd that's farmed locally and their butcher supplies the place I ate mine at. I'm cr@p at cooking venison so I let them do it for me!!!

Wifey had her ears done with microsuction. She no longer shouts at me and has had a grin from ear to ear since we got back, after days of doom, gloom and dizzy spells. Best £55 I ever spent! ( I also added a good tip as the lady was brilliant, explaining everything and showing all the pics on her camera/machine. Basically an apple phone with a micro camera added).

A new "homage" watch which looks like a Rolex Explorer arrived today and I'm very happy with it. The bracelet was a bit long but I managed to shorten it myself so that saves a trip into town. The only bad news was that my B&Q precision screwdrivers seem to be made of chocolate. Why are we so reliant on tat from China? I've ordered a set off Amazon and I hope they're made of tougher chocolate.

Anyway. I'm very happy with my watch.

Know what you mean regarding screwdrivers, I bought a torx set from eBay for £6 to change the lithium battery in my Garmin watch and they were rubbish soft chewed up just tightening the screws on the watch back
Serves me right for buying eBay tat but thought at least they would be good enough for that job , got a refund straight away though

Thank you. I'm now subscribed and will have a trawl through later (y)

I was chuffed today to see a white tailed eagle fly quite close overhead. It took me a while to get my phone out of my pocket, so the evidence is not very convincing :ROFLMAO:

I bought this many years ago and it's been very handy, especially for watches, computers etc. It's no longer available but plenty of alternatives. The bits seem pretty solid, no wear at all.

That looks like a good set, thanks

This is the other baker I follow.

Made bread and focaccia using her recipes and they were both good. When she talks about making dimples in focaccia her voice fills with pleasure, and it's a delight to hear.

Thanks. At first glance she looks a bit sweet for my tastes, but I'll look for the focaccia ( and listen ha ha!). Last night I made my first ever canapés. I feel like a proper grown up now :ROFLMAO: well, almost!

edit: another subscription, thanks! :)

Having grandson over (6) and giving him his new classical guitar to "play"! I'd put his guitar and case, inside my dreadnought guitar case and told him that my guitar had a baby guitar that he could adopt! He loved it. We spent some time on the basics and it was amazing to watch him go from "playing", to developing strategies, to get clean notes and form a rhythm. He then asked about the sounds it made, so we watched some Willy Nelson, followed by a video of the repairs to his guitar (Trigger) which fascinated the little chap. He has decided to call his guitar "Tigger", so we have sent off for a Tigger sticker! He lost the plectrum inside the body of the guitar, so great fun was had with him jumping up and down with guitar held above his head! Happy Days!

At first glance she looks a bit sweet for my tastes,

I was very tempted to try her Panettone recipe, but the paper cases are relatively expensive for a one-off, and getting good ingredients at this stage difficult. Maybe next year I'll candy some lemon peel.

I made a fruit bread. Just a normal bread mix but with added mixed fruit, cranberries and seeds of various kinds and with pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg, It's lovely. I had a slice as soon as it was ready and still hot and another slice this morning. It also makes lovely toast.

Another from me.

I was rummaging around in a drawer today looking for something and I came across my first camera, a Kodak Instamatic 36. I knew I still had it but I thought it was in another drawer. I got it out and fondled it for a bit, cocked it and raised it to my eye and I fired the shutter twice. I loved that camera. I still have the flash attachment and some flashes too. Happy Days :D

I have olive bread fermenting right now, due for it's last series of stretches soon, then shaping and final proving before baking.

Typical phone photo, missed focus. :p

Smoked paprika and poppy seeds on the outside before scoring.

In reply to my post on WAMT, checked over the hifi system for cause of the HUM and when I powered down the headphone amp, all went silent, yay. New power source on order to try,

Just someone's reaction to a movie. I put a movie on just to keep someone interested whilst I was doing other things and they loved it and asked where they could "get it" on DVD so I found it on line and ordered them a copy. I was just surprised at the unexpected and maybe OTT reaction but if you like something you like it :D

Finally managed to make the WiFi extender bought a while ago work for decent WiFi in the kitchen. Bought it some time ago, and it just didn't behave, but re-tried with a different set up and all seems good.

Big (600g) boxes of Lindor chocolates being cheaper at our local Sainsbury's than the 337g boxes. Might have a few kg stashed away somewhere!

Apart from a pizza yesterday all my post Christmas day meals have been Christmas left overs. I keep everything worth keeping, even the gravy. I think I have enough leftovers for another three meals not counting the four potatoes I have left. I might have one jacket potato and then use the other three for potato cakes. If I count those four potatoes as leftovers I think I can stretch the meals consisting largely of leftovers with just something else added to seven. I did buy what I thought was the minimum but some things came in bags or packets so that's what I had to get hence the leftovers. Waste not want not and all this means I don't have to go shopping this week :D

It's sausage, mash and gravy tomorrow.

I've just received my latest "homage" watch. This one is an Omega Seamaster 007 edition homage and it seems to be very nice. It seems well made with no obvious faults or sharp edges although I've no idea what the automatic mechanical movement inside is as the page on ebay didn't say but I'm not bothered as it's a cheap gamble at under £40 so that's a £9,460 saving over an original but of course nowhere near the quality. It's just a cheap automatic mechanical watch which seems to work fine. It came with both a metal and a fabric NATO style strap too.

I think that's the last watch I want for now.

Have you got a Captain Willard "Seiko"? There's a very good homage with a Seiko movement. Tempted myself!

WCMUT was a nice curry looking out over Exmouth beach. A favourite café in Lyme Regis has recently opened a new branch in Exmouth and has the same menu. Much easier to get to than Lyme. We'll still head over to LR but not as often.

I looked at that, but I have 3 working watches and but only wear one most of the time. Just don't need more stuff that won't be used.

Only 3?!

I'm getting better at resisting temptation but still have the occasional relapse.
